Hello all! I have returned from the great land of beer and strudel and oompah and Dirndels and Lederhosen. A little tired, a lot full, and with a silly smile on my face. The break felt good, the weather fantastic, the people fun, etc.

I see you all have been busy during my absense, with Mac up to Colonel and others nipping at his heels. There has been no lack of posts or interest during my absense. In fact, one poster suggested that the forums were operating faster during my absense, which I may just take as a hint to leave again, maybe for a longer period next time.

In getting caught up with all the posts during the last three days, I did find it just a bit difficult to weed through all the smilies and "ducks" to find informative posts. While I don't really mind these, it will be a trial for someone who posts a rational question, and goes back a few days later, to find answers. And with some complaining about the speed of the forum (which only decreases with increased number of posts), it might be best to try to keep the posts more on-topic, and start separate topics for the off-topic stuff. I really don't want to start an off-topic forum like most other sites do, because some would miss the flavor and information associated with such posts. But it would be best to add at least some element of information or content concerning the topic in question, in addition to smilies and other remarks.

I've gotten rid of my bitter beer face, and now am enjoying the hair of the dog, but shall shortly be back to my MechMeister self. It's nice to be home.

Welcome back Rick, just to ease your mind, it seems there is NO direct connection between you being at home and the lag issue, still lag free here

Yes, same here. (Well, actually, I can't speak for the forum speed when I wasn't here, but it's certainly fast enough - for me - when I /am/ here.) It's pretty weird that some people have what amount to horrible download times, while others - apparently at the same time - have very quick ones. One of the great mysteries of life, I suppose.

Don't get Mountain Dew here (may have something to do with the cafine level being above EU limits).

But we do have Irn Brew (sic), the drink with the ad slogan "Made in Scotland from girders!"

Great drink - puts hairs on your chest - not popular with the ladies though

Also have Highlander crisps - replacement for Doritos (tast better too).

Only problem is - you can eat only one.

Ok...that's it...I'm going to have to talk of the kid gloves now.

200 post count penalty for bad pun...

I think Mountain Dew is illegal in Canada too....something about only colored drinks can have caffeine IIRC....

Me though...I hate MD...I drink Doctor Pepper a lot though...like that...can stomach coke and pepsi...but don't like them as well....

Doritos though...those are the treats of the gods....as long as you get blazing hot Doritos....the standard cheese ones are just way too bland....

I can remember (at least I think I can) some good times gaming for 2-3 days straight, subsiting off of Jolt cola and eating Airheads candy. Only bad part is after the second day or so your eyes feel like they have hairs growing out of them and your teeth itch, but once you get used to that, it's fun!

Mountain Dew isn't illegal in Canada silly. It just doesn't have the caffeine content that it does in the US. It's why I import 12 3 litre bottles back into Ontario everytime I go to Michigan.

Ok....THAT'S what they did...just lowered the caffeine content...I knew that US Mountain Dew though was not allowed to be sold there.
