The new Blaine Pardoe book is out. And we get a real treat, the inner workings of the events that lead up to the Clan Wolverine and their Trail of Annihilation.
The story follows along rather well, we meet many of the players and see how the political backstabbing actually does indeed exist in the Clans and the same old cover your own rear end exist as well. We see Nicholas in his finest as a megalomaniac. We also get a good look at early Clan life and setup and see how things are starting to change towards what we know as the Clans.

Battles are well written as is the colorful events of what all the leadership of the Wolverines see, feel and think about things.
Hey I am trying not to spoil the book for those who have not read it. So sorry if this is generic.

Only issue I saw was that some of the backstory from the wars to free the Pentagon Worlds and how those events lead to the setup the events that cause the Clans to turn on the Wolverines is missing from the book, granted the information maybe in another book or collection of tales from BattleCorps but I feel it should have been in this book to tie things off a bit better. The ending leaves a lot of room to see what the Wolverines do fully after they flee and we can hope for more on this group in the future.

Being blunt - I hated this story with a passion.

It is a large reason why I largely dropped the game.

I have no idea who that is and I don't think I've registered this name on more than a couple of sites.
And - having checked out Talens posts on the Mordel forums....no. Definitely not.

As for the odd subject - yes. But that's how much I hated the story. As I said, it's a large part of the reason I dropped the game. Not the entire reason...but a large part of it.

Well, so far I like you...mostly because you use ellipses.

I thought it was a great story, right next to the Wars of Reaving sourcebooks. Because I dislike the Clans' weird artificial pseudo-culture and think it could never work and should have collapsed.
Betrayal of Ideals goes to show to what lengths sect leader Nicholas Kerensky went and how hard he had to lie and forge history to give the impression that it worked. And how all those "warrior sheep" Khans willingly and knowingly drank his Cool Aid. Sect sickos indeed.
(And Wars of Reaving narrates how the house of cards finally collapsed - chrashed and burned - long after it should have.)

Now, I do have a minor issue with the print book though: The print edition adds in two largely pointless (imho) new scenes as prologue and epilogue, but it omits the enlightening epilogues and authors comments that I liked very much in the earlier BattleCorps edition of the text. That's right, the print novel omits several chapters of epilogue! Instead we get that ComStar Explorer Corps dig team on Barbados that isn't nearly the big reveal that was hinted at.
