Good morning.
As promised, I have now completed the DCA ship list as of 1 January, 2767 in my imagined universe as told in the story-line of Kerensky and Kurita. The only thing missing is the 60 naval auxiallaries (tankers, munitions ships, repair tenders, etc) that are assigned to each of the Fleet HQ's in groups of twelve and moved around as needed. (If any of you want to come up with names for those sixty compact-core ships, by all means knock yourselves out, I'm done with Japanese names for a while, however. ).
First off, a little bit of an explanation. In my concept of the DCA around this time, there are five fleets, called First Fleet, Second Fleet, etc., etc. Four of these are the main fighting forces of the Combine, with 80 WarShips assigned to each of them. The Fifth Fleet includes reserve formations as well as the border patrol corvettes not tasked for convoy escort and carrier escort.
Each of the ships in the DCA is assigned to a Squadron (a group of eight ships of the same general class, such as Cruiser). However, Squadrons are seldom--if ever--deployed intact by anything except the battle-line. Though a Squadron command is prestigious, it is actually more of an administrative posistion in the DCA, since individual ships of a squadron can be deployed hundreds of light-years apart.
Within a Squadron, individual ships are grouped in two-ship Divisions. These Divisions are the basic tactical building blocks of the Kurita Fleet. The two ships assigned to a Division are ALWAYS deployed together, train together, and get overhauls together. Divisional numbers are given as (Squadron) and (Division). Thus, Cruiser Division 73 is the third Division assigned to Cruiser Squadron Seven.
Divisions are assigned to TASK GROUPS on an 'as-needed' basis. What you see in the OBAT below is the current assignment as of 1 January, 2767. Task Groups within a Fleet can be concentrated together, or assigned different tasks, based upon the needs of the Dragon and the wishes of the Fleet Commander. Divisions within a Task Group can even be pulled out and given different tasks or missions. The commander of a Task Group--an Admiral or Commodore in most cases, but it can be a senior Captain--is given considerable latitude in fufilling the assignments given him by the Fleet Commander. Generally speaking, if the Task Group commander accomplishes the mission, no one raises any eyebrows about HOW he did. If he fails, on the other hand . . . well, you all saw 'The Last Samurai', didn't you?
For actual numbers, the are 32 BB, 16 BC (which many consider to actually be BB), 24 CV, 38 CA, 32 CL, 48 FF, 128 DD, and 200 CT; for a total ship count of 472. Of these, the Amaratsu class FF (48 in total) were not revealed until Kurita decided (in my time-line) to go with war with Amaris. This meant, the Dragon's neighbors expected they could field 424 WarShips, when in fact they could actually field 11% more.
Now, on to the OBAT. Ships marked with an asterisk (*) are equipped as flagships. Hope that you enjoy it!
