Contest #2 will require a design using two SRM weapons (they need not be the primary weapons, nor be the same size SRMs) and ferro-fibrous armor. Use of endosteel is prohibited.

It must be a light or medium Clan mech, and should be able to be used as a recon mech in its primary role.

Any tech used in 3058 or prior is allowed.

Presume cost is an issue.

Deadline for entries is 2359 EST on 16 March 2011.

The Blood Eagle was an attempt by Clan Blood Spirit to develop a cheap BattleMech that excelled in reconnaissance. The first version of the machine sported an ECM Suite that was dropped in later models in exchange for MASC technology, coaxing a little more speed out of the standard fusion engine. With a price tag of only 3.8 million C-Bills, the Blood Eagle 2 is a more than capable scout 'Mech that can also hold its own in close quarters. If things get dicey, it can use its high speed coupled with MASC to quickly escape its foes.

==Overview:==
The Arctos is an early attempt by Clan Ghost Bear to produce a second-line
medium reconnaissance Battlemech using Inner Sphere industrial capacity
available within their occupation zone.  

Compared to Omnimechs of similar tonnage the Arctos is not particularly
impressive.  It is not particularly fast, and while it can deliver an
impressive barrage at short range, it does not feature the glamorous,
one-shot-one-kill weapons that are typically found on even much smaller
designs such as the Uller.  However, it does feature a power plant and
skeleton that can be produced at virtually any Spheroid battlemech factory. 
Meanwhile the SRMs can utilize ammunition scavenged from Inner Sphere forces
post-engagement.  Currently the SRM launchers themselves, the lasers, the
ferro-fibrous armor, and the Active probe must all be supplied from the
homeworlds.  The Bears are taking steps to ensure that in years to come, all
components will be locally produced.

The Arctos compares favorably to older Spheroid designs such as the PHX-1
Phoenix Hawk, but it is hard pressed against some of the upgraded designs
currently entering Spheroid service.  For now, it is expected that the Arctos
will be used to bulk out recon elements in second-line and solahma units, so
the Clan does not necessarily have the highest expectations for this design.

the kelenken has been designed to be used together with my velociraptor design. both designs are able to walk at 10, being a maximum difficult target without haveing too much difficulty to aim by itself. the most remarkable feature is the carbon-ceramic beak that forms half of the massive skull(rulewise: a hatchet in the right arm) its intended purpose is to destroy stuff behind enemy lines. it has a hook at its end that can dig in an object so it could be ripped open, usefull against vehicles or buildings, but also against the rear armor of a mech. then it has two srm4 with 50 shots of ammo, possibly in two diffeerent sorts like 25 standard plus 25 infernos to do a lot of damage close up. to reduce its ammo dependance it also has 2 ERML.

the way the kelenken is intended to be used is in a mixed company of one lance of kelenken, wich does lots of damage to bait enemy scout hunters.to achieve that better its speed is usually limited to 5/8 in this phase of the operation. then there are two lances of velociraptors that wait just out of sight,till some enemy shows up. this is the moment when the speed limit is eliminated and the velociraptors attack with their ERLLs, the 8 velociraptors have 16 of these.

the name kelenken comes from a prehistoric terror-bird wich stood ten feet tall, weighed 500 pounds and could run at 50 kph, it was a predator in what is now south america. terror birds were the " top-killers" at their time, kelenken was the biggest of them.

the original design, marked as kelenken or kelenken a has 5.5 tons of armor
with 2 SRM6 and one ton of ammo, it is never used alone as it would be relying
on its beak as only defense once its ammo has run out. 

the kelenken c has no beak but combines the weapons loadout of the kelenken b
with 5.5 tons of armor, it is favoured by pilots that cannot befriend with the
unconventional melee weapon,

the kelenken II series uses a XXL engine that frees 3 tons for armor weapons
and amunition.

the kelenken IIa has 5.5 tons of armor, the weapons of the kelenken b with 3
instead of 2 medium lasers. there are versions with 2 SRM6 and two medium
lasers or electronic equipment. the kelenken II however has jet to be accepted
by customers as its price tag seems to be prohibitive.

==Overview:==
Clan Nova Cat began designing the Strix shortly after the Ghost Bear/Combine
War. With their limited production facilities in the Inner Sphere Clan Nova
Cat was having difficulties replacing combat losses, in order to reduce
development and production times it was decided to utilise available resources
within the Draconis Combine. That the Strix bears more than a passing
resemblance to the Jenner is no accident, many of the structural components
and engine were acquired through technology exchanges with Luthien Armor
Works, this had the added benefit of reducing costs now that Clan Nova Cat was
having to face the harsh economic realities of life in the Inner Sphere.

When the Strix was unveiled it was met with disdain by Clan Nova Cat
MechWarriors and considered inferior to the Jenner IIC in production at the
same facilities. Only the fact that the Strix could be produced quicker and
cost almost 50% less than the Jenner IIC saved the design from extinction.
Production was finally brought to a halt with the start of the Jihad which
disrupted supplies of components from the Draconis Combine.

==Capabilities:==
The Strix had a hard time gaining acceptance, compared to the Jenner IIC it is
slower and lacks jump jets but it does have a slight edge in fire-power, its
trio of Extended Range Medium Lasers enabling the Strix to be deployed on
extended operations without the ammunition supply problems of the Jenner IIC.
The two Short Range Missile Racks provide additional fire-power but the
limited ammunition supply has been criticised because it limits options on the
types of rounds that can be carried. The Strix also has two more tons of
Ferro-Fibrous Armor than the Jenner IIC which significantly increases its
battlefield survivability. The main advantage the Strix has though is its
Electronic Warfare capabilities which became highly sought after when the
W.O.B Jihad started.

 One of the benefits of many of its structural components being compatible
with the Draconis Combine's Jenner was that maintenance and sourcing spare
parts in the field was much easier, as a result the Strix achieved higher
battlefield readiness rates than any other 'Mech in the Clan Nova Cat Touman.
