Contest #5 will be to create an heavy or assault Inner Sphere omni-mech. The addition to the Prime version the omni-mech must have a minimum of two and a maximum of four other configurations.

All tournament legal equipment is allowed.

Presume cost is an issue.

Deadline for entries is 2359 EDT on 21 May 2011.

==Overview:==
     The Night Spirit OmniMech is a new Omni design by the Federated Suns.
This 'Mech is designed along the same lines as many of the older Mechs with
increased survivability because of the inclusion of a standard fusion engine.
Even though significant weight can be saved with a XL engine, the designers
deamed it un-necessary and to risky for this 'Mech. It was decided to
incorporate Endo-Steel to free up weight for a larger offensive arsenal.

==Capabilities:==
    This OmniMech is designed to fill a wide variety of roles in the Federated
Suns arsenal. With this Omni included into all assault and strike lances it
gives the unit a better survival chance without having to sacrifice needed
firepower. The inclusion of two floodlights also makes the Night Spirit an
excellent night fighter.

==Variants:==
     The Prime variant is the most popular. Its wide variety and range of
weapons, plus the jump jets make it a deadly weapon at all ranges in the hands
os a skilled fighter. This variant is a welcome addition to any lance.

     The Alpha variant is a long to medium range fighter that can lay down
deadly accurate long range fire while its lancemates are able to advance on
enemy positions.

     The Bravo variant is a close in fighter, designed to root out its enemies
in urban and rough terrain, then destroy them. The Ultra Autocannon, Rotary
Autocannon and backup ER Medium Laser make this machine idealy suited and
deadly at its job.

     The Charlie variant is another long range fighter designed to lay down a
deadly barrage of missiles for an extended time to cover its lancemates
advances.. 

     The Delta variant is the second most popular design. Its wide variety of
weapons  allows this "Jack of all Trades" to actually be the master of the
battlefield!

     The Echo variant in development will be a fire support vehicle with the
Arrow IV Artillery System.

Always rater disliked the published model; I guess it was supposed to be something rushed out, but it offended my inner muncken.

So I did the obvious things, and thought the layout of the endo-steel was neat'n novel, while "making" the design on many levels.

I think this mech works well as a Sniper or Skirmisher possibly a brawler as well. Made me think of another reason why there are few omni-designs they are a bugger to optimise for different roles what works for one role doesn't work for another.

During early 3067 a OmniMech version of the 3050 era Marauder MAD-5D was put into limited production in the Fed Suns, this OmniMech was mainly over looked due to the resurgence of the Project Phoenix Marauders which flooded the market.

I am not into Physical combat. I think the best way to fight is to avoid damage as much as possible and that is almost imossible in Physical combat. I tend to keep back a few hexes, pounding away with whatever weapons and movement I have at my disposal.

Having said that, I was intriqued by the possibility of making a 'Mech with dual Hatchets and TSM, so I used the Charger as a base and went to town. I then made the different configs based on some of my favorite designs, the Warhammer, the Marauder and the Archer.

I present to you the Tormenter CGR-5O.

==Overview:==
     As part of the technology exchange that occurred during the Clan War,
Wells Technologies passed along the Charger CGR-1A1 to Defiance Industries
(possibly as a counterpoint to the exchange of the Firestarter FS9-H between
Coventry Metal Works and Luthien Armor Works).  Defiance Industries played
with the idea of producing the overpriced 'Mech, just to spite the DCMS, but
the idea of building a design that had limited utility quickly saw the design
filed in the back of the storage room.
     It was only when Defiance began to work on their own Omni designs that
they reconsidered the CGR, if only for the possibilities the chassis might
provide.
     The CGR-5O Tormenter began to walk off the Defiance assembly lines in
late 3062.

==Capabilities:==
     Defiance engineers began the design by decreasing the oversized engine. 
By stepping the maximum speed down by almost 22 km/h, they were able to
salvage 30 tons that could be devoted to other improvements.  However, Triple
Strength Myomer was included to give the Tormenter the same movement profile
when the heat spikes, which will happen, as all the configurations run
decidedly hot.  An ExtraLight engine was considered and rejected for the
Tormenter, preferring to keep the standard engine to increase the Tormenter's
survivability on the battlefield.
     Endo Steel was used to construct the structure of the Tormenter, giving
the design an additional four tons.  This was transferred to the armor,
increasing that protection by 40%, making the Tormenter even harder to take
down.  CASE was added to protect the design from ammunition explosions.
     Once the base design was constructed, the engineers turned to the weapons
mix.  The decision was made early on that they would steer clear of the
Chargers limited weapons mix, and chose to design the Primary configuration as
a pure brawler.  They gave it two Hatchets, to give it that 'up close and
personal' attack profile, which is further enhanced by the TSM.  This was
augmented by two Large Lasers to allow the design to attack and close with the
MechWarrior's target.  The Long Range Missile system is intended to keep the
pilot's enemies' heads down during the initial charge to get into range. 
Twelve rounds are stored in the CASE protected Torso.  To increase the
Tormenters mobility, Jump Jets were installed to the Torsos.  The site of a
dual hatchet wielding monster rocketing through the battlefield is sure to
inspire dread in many a MechWarrior.
     Alternate Configuration A borrows shamelessly from the Marauder, although
the Arms have more in common with the Warhammer.  Particle Projection Cannons
are carried in the classic Arm of the Warhammer, while the Autocannon/5
extends over the Left Torso.  Three Medium Lasers and a Short Range Missile
launcher ensure that any pilot will regret approaching too closely to this
design.
     Alternate Configuration B is a combination of the Primary and Alt Config
A for when it is unclear whether the pilot will be able to get into range of
their enemies.  Carrying a Hatchet in the Right Arm and a PPC in the left,
this design is a 'Jack of all and Master of none', requiring the pilot to
choose his moment of opportunity.  Even its mobility is limited, only carrying
half the jump capacity.  The Medium Lasers and Streak SRM does give the pilot
the ability to deal with closing enemies, however.  This config is also
intended to hide itself and any of its allies in the electronic haze of its
Guardian ECM unit.
     Alternate Configuration C is designed to cover multiple threats, able to
engage both ground and air targets, with the LB 10-X Autocannons able to
handle both with equal aplomb.  Generally, this config always carries two tons
of standard rounds and one ton of cluster munitions, allowing the pilot to
choose the best round for any given situation.  Intended to stand its ground,
the designs Medium Pulse Laser and ER Medium laser, as well as the Streak SRM,
are weapons of last resort, only added to defend the design from enemies who
choose to close with this configuration.
     Alternate Configuration D is another design that borrows its weapons from
another design, this time the Archer, inspired by the exploits of Colonel
Jaime Wolf.  Twin LRM 20s extend from the shoulders of this design, equipped
with Artemis IV FCS.  With four tons of ammunition, this design will stand on
or behind a mountain cliff, raining missiles on its enemies from cover.  When
its munitions are expended, it proceeds into the thick of battle, its battle
fists and Medium Lasers ready to take on all comers.

==Deployment:==
     Used by the Armed Forces of the Lyran Alliance and the Federated
Commonwealth, as well as the Kell Hounds, this design is a fierce opponent to
handle.  The design has even been found in the hands of Draconis pilots,
obviously in gratitude for the original progenitor's exchange.

==Overview:==
Learning from their experience with Perseus, the  engineers at Kali Yama
Industries submitted a proposal for an Assault-class OmniMech to supplement
the Perseus and replace older Assault chassis within the Federal forces with
later availability to the Provinicial forces. 

In order to save money and carry more weapons, Kali Yama decided to with a
smaller standard fusion engine and standard structure. This left the designers
with an impressive 42 tons of pod space for a large variety of weapons. Due to
its slow speed, the Leonidas was fitted with a fixed ECM system to help hide
it from enemy sensors.

==Capabilities:==
The Prime configuration of the Leonidas is a true assault loadout featuring
twin Gauss Rifles with six tons of ammunition and five extended range medium
lasers as back-up weapons.

The Alpha Configuration features twin ER PPCs and an LB 10-X for exploiting
the holes that the PPCs make. For close-in work a brace Streak SRM-6s are also
mounted.

The Beta configuration is the brawler featuring an LB 20-X and a trio of pulse
lasers for the down and dirty work. An LRM-10 gives the Beta some long range
punch to allow it to close with the enemy. Three large jump jets have also
been fitted which allow the Leonidas to jump 90 meters.

The Gamma package is the dedicated long-range support platform featuring two
LRM-20 launchers with three tons of ammunition for each launcher. Matching
pairs of extended range large and medium lasers complete the package.

The Delta package is the hunter killer of the group. Matching pairs of ER PPCs
and Large Pulse Lasers are the only weapons on this package. Three jump jets
give this model added maneuverability in tight quarters.

==Overview:==
After the success of other four-legged designs such as the Tarantula, in the
late 3050's the Free Worlds League commissioned Corean Enterprises to begin
work on a heavy quad Omnimech.  The Destrier is a thickly armored, relatively
inexpensive "mid-heavy" Omnimech.  It is not necessarily designed to be a
lance leader.  Rather, the Destrier is designed to support its lance by
adapting to the role needed in any given combat situation.

==Capabilities:==
The quad-legged design provides the Destrier a very stable fighting platform. 
Some observers have highly criticized the use of a quad design with an
Endo-Steel II skeleton, claiming that it would highly limit the mech's ability
to carry certain loadouts.  This is true to a certain extent.  Due to the
bulkiness of double heat sinks the Destrier is not really capable of acting as
an energy-weapons platform.  Aside from that, however, the Destrier is capable
of performing every traditional role expected of a heavy mech, from tactical
combat to fire support to close assault.  

==Variants:==
There are currently five factory-approved configurations of the Destrier.

Destrier Prime: The Destrier Prime is the basic "take all comers"
configuration preferred by most pilots.  Armed with a Gauss Rifle, an ER large
laser, and a secondary battery consisting of two medium ER lasers, a small
pulse laser, and a rear-mounted ER small laser, the Prime configuration
fulfills the role of a traditional tactical heavy battlemech.

Destrier A:  The A configuration is strictly a fire-support mech.  Armed with
twin LRM-20's with Artemis fire control, the Destrier A is most deadly in
ranged firefights.  It is most often used in situations where traditional fire
support mechs like the Archer are needed but not available.  It also mounts a
single ER medium laser for self-defense, as well as CASE to guard against an
ammunition explosion.

Destrier B:  The B configuration features a massive LBX-20 autocannon which
takes up nearly the entire right torso.  A generous 20 rounds of ammunition
ensures that the Destrier B can not only take any desired mix of standard and
cluster ammo, but that it will have enough ammo to last through virtually any
engagement.  For even more short-range firepower it also features a large
pulse laser and a medium pulse laser.  The B is often used in situations where
short ranged combat or conventional armor units are expected.  CASE protection
is included as well.

Destrier C:  Like the Destrier B, the Destrier C also excels in short-ranged,
anti-vehicular combat.  However where the B variant focuses on sheer damage
output the C variant is designed to be ammo-efficient.  Although each SRM
launcher only has an average of 12.5 shots, the use of Streak technology
virtually ensures that no shots will be wasted.  Like the other variants the C
mounts a backup laser battery in the form of two medium pulse lasers, as well
as CASE protection for its ammunition.

Destrier D:  The D configuration is intended specifically for use in a C3
network.  When used properly the Destrier D can accurately deliver a truly
punishing barrage of up to 60 MRM warheads at medium range.  In the same vein
as its sister variants, the D also utilizes twin medium pulse lasers and CASE
protection.

==Deployment==
The Destrier has been in limited production since 3060.  Surprisingly the Free
Worlds League opted not to purchase any production runs, and it has yet to
find a major buyer among the other Houses.  Despite this the Destrier has
still proven to be profitable, for sales to price-conscious mercenary units
have been quite brisk.

this mech seems to be self contradicting, an omnimech that only moves 2/3, and even more: an omnimech that has a special role.
the rock was constructed for the defense of immobile objects,like industry, citys or barracks. while its more mobile cousins would use their mobility to fight the opforce the rock would stay at the defended object and defend it directly, sometimes in combination with a mobile unit as a hammer/anvil combination.
when a mech for this role was written out the government also was short in money, so it had to be relatively cheap, hence the lack of high tech.
that one response would be an omni-mech was a surprise, but it was gladly accepted as it could use whatever amunition was available.that it can also be used as a fire support mech or city fighter did not reduce its chances either.


as the rock has only got a 200 point engine and only 8 heatsinks in-engine it is mostly limited to non-energy weapons.
