The guidline will be different for every contest (other than the ones already set in the rules post)

As for what the winner gets, we're still working on that.

I'd like to offer custom painting of a miniature to any contest winners that want it. (they supply the miniature in question)

Contest #1:Would the required Large Laser have to be a Standard Large? Or are Pulse and ER Larges acceptable for the entries?

Also: Inner Sphere? Clan? Either?

Inner Sphere...I edited the post.

Funny thing is we originally had Inner Sphere in there twice, so I removed one before posting...I guess I didn't read it over and one had already been removed. :embarrased:

Missed that, sorry.

The regular old standard "large laser". Your design can have the other types of large lasers as well, but it has to have at least one standard large laser.

I just tested it by clicking the "code" button and adding a mech (which I then deleted) and it does work, so I'm not sure why it hasn't worked for the designs already posted.

Could I ask for a "watch thread" "button" in the contest forum Please ?, like there is in all the other design forums.

Sorry if I have asked in the wrong place. Thanks.

Dave.

I don't have any idea what you're talking about. Do you mean the "Subscribe topic" option, which is at the top? Otherwise I'm kind of at a loss here...

When I saw another 50 ton fast mech i was all "damn you goose", because i put in all the effort for make the fluff, but then i saw it really wasn't THAT similar. His is a fast sniping platform, mine is a fast brawler. we just both picked the 50 ton class because it is optimal.

So far the other mechs there are pretty good. I look forward to seeing what else comes!

And that's why I got'a get off my butt and write fluff more often: In my mind, stereo larges means you have something to shoot your way in with, [i]then[/i], because they are [i]only[/i] larges, and not ERs, you have this reason to stay about 5 hexes from the thing you and your buddies in the C3i network decided you don't like.

possiblt, but dual large lasers isn't even a piloting check on its own. i like your design for chasing light mechs, and getting BEHIND the big boys, but lurking in the middle of a firefight? your XL engine makes you a dancer, on the fringes of the fight... not a brawler "all up ons". Your design is a straight up MURDERER of anything under 40 tons and closer than 10ish hexes.

Highballs is sweet too, but is the light fusion engine 3058 tech?

So how about putting all of them into a single lance or company?

THAT would be pretty deadly, but as my recent clan-vs-innersphere fight thread proves, people will get upset with you if you use more than 2 of an identical design... because the REAL army makes sure to diversify its formations that way...

In all seriousness 6-12 of those dancing and jumping around would be a MEAN fight for any unit

Still working on the BBcode issue...

A reminder that posters are allowed ONE submission per contest...if you post more than one all will be disallowed. If there are variants to your design they should be noted in the fluff section and not posted as a new design.

That is hard to tell, there were rumors of light fusion engine's designed by Blackwell Corporation in 3053 and prototypes confirmed in 3058. But it was 3062 when the Lyran Alliance had the first production light fusion engine's :undecided: I want to use a light fusion engine

There is a design with a targeting computer that was not introduced until 3062 by the Federated Suns.

And a design with C3i that was not introduced until 3062 by ComStar/Word of Blake.

Cool BBCode is back on :)

Light fusion engines are out, as are targeting computers and C3i as they are "3062" tech.

Light PPCs are after 3058 (I don't recall exactly the year, 3067? Maybe?) so they wouldn't be allowed either...but that design doesn't have a light PPC, it has a "Lord's Light" PPC

I kind'a remember having such an issue, probably someplace else; I've not had it here, I don't hink . . .

This will sound asinine, but "when was the last time you updated your video driver?"

To answer a question I got via PM, which folks will probably wish to know...

The only judge that comes into the Design Contest forum is me. The rest have said they won't enter this forum or don't post here so they won't be looking anyway.

The only judge that knows who submitted which design is me, the others will receive just the HMPro files without any notation on who submitted it.

Once the judges have submitted their ballots all the ballots are sent out to all the judges. Only one judge (not me) will know how each individual judge scored each submission.

Then one ballot will be randomly removed from the total in a method we're choosing not to divulge. It is a method no judge has control over.

The scores from the remaining ballots will be tabulated and then the results will determine the winner of that contest.

I think we lost the brief boost in participants we had when CBT was down.

chihawk,

I would try, but I'm not a big Clan fan. If this had been an any 'Mech criteria... :-(

Shoot, I would;ve taken it one step further and submitted my Black, Green, & Red Scout LAM designs. :P

I hesatated a few days:
  • Not a big Clanner
  • Dislike "Pro-FF" stances
  • Dislike "Anti-ES" stances
But it's all in good fun, so why not play? :dunno:

In many ways, my design was a failed attempt to justify the restrictions: I have a few assault 'Mechs that couldn't use more then LFF, not being much short on weight, but more-so short of crits . . .

I've been tinkering with a design for the last week or two but I'm still not entirely satisfied with it... may just have to roll it out anyway. :)

The contest is great, but things are going to remain slow here forever until a new HM product rolls out.
