This may not be that original, but I want to get something going, and people are always asking questions like this. So here are the requirements for Fastest Level 2 Battle-Worthy Design, basically known as a Roadrunner/Savannah Master combination:

* Can be a BattleMech, Vehicle or ProtoMech.

* Design must be made using HeavyMetal Pro, Vee or Lite.

* Must have at least 20 armor points.

* Must have weapon(s) capable of producing at least 4 points of 'Mech-scale damage.

* Must be Level 1 or Level 2; no Level 3 designs.

* Can be Inner Sphere or Clan technology base.

* Custom weapons or equipment are not allowed.

* Extra points will be given for originality.

* In case of ties, extra weighting will be given to lower cost.

* Post your entry in Text TRO format, using CODE tags. Also include a Link to the Uploaded design for reference. See rules for more details.

Hydrofoils, huh? Boy I didn't expect /that/! Not what I had in mind, to be honest, but certainly within the rules, so that's okay. ;-) IF a hydrofoil wins, I may do another, specifying /land/ vehicles. ;-)

The Speeding Jesus is a one-shot prototype commissioned by Doctor Raisley of
the Dropship Irregulars to create the fastest raiding platform around, be it
'Mech, vehicle, or otherwise.

==Capabilities:==
The Speeding Jesus is capable of outrunning any threat that could cripple it
with ease while those that can keep up with it will have a difficult time at
best attempting to hit the nimble 'Mech. Clocked in at having a running speed
just short of 250 kilometers an hour, the Speeding Jesus will have few
problems acting as a lightning raider, darting in and out to use its Diverse
Optics Sunbeam small lasers to their maximum effect.

Its armour is also fairly thick for a combatant so geared towards speed,
carrying two and a half tons of Lexington Limited High Grade ferro fibrous
plating on its small frame.

==Deployment==
To date the single existing Speeding Jesus is serving its field trials in the
Dropship Irregulars, assigned to one of their quirky MechWarriors in the
Brightly Painted Decoys division.

Just go to http://www.heavymetalpro.com/upload_design2.php , browse to determine the file you want to upload, enter the design's name, etc. in the blanks provided, and press Submit. After uploading, you get a link that you can copy and paste here or elsewhere, to let people easily get to your design.

==Overview:==
The Speedy is aptly named after Frank Guido Gonzalez, the mastermind behind the project. The entire project was organized by Professor Gonzalez as engineering project for advanced students at NAIS. The object was to create a small, fast tracked vehicle for combat in the light woods near the campus. Only one prototype was produced - mostly for cost reasons. In fact, the vehicle is so expensive that the project  was underwritten largely by the AFFC HC as part of their New Weapons and Warriors Project.

Unfortunately, the design was not a complete success in its envisioned
environment. The speed of the vehicle is so great that it proved impossible to avoid trees. Unfortunately, for Professor Gonzalez, even the light woods near the campus can contain large trees. Fortunately, Professor Gonzalet is recovering from his injuries. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of the Speedy or the 500 year old Avalon Oak.

Professor Gonzalez plans on attempting to make a hover version of the vehicle in an attempt to avoid similar problems in the future.

After much thought, I realized two things.

1. Hummingbird is kinda lame for the name of a quad. :roll:

Utilizing the latest technology, the Black Ghast is faster, packs a bigger and longer range punch, with more armor than specified by the competition.  The extended range Medium Laser is a nice balance of range and damage for a scout 'Mech.  However, the true asset that the Black Ghast has is its speed.  And although the 300 XL engine provides an excellent (and efficient) powerplant, the use of accelerated myomers allows the Mechwarrior an extra burst of speed for key moments in battle.

==Battle History:==
SCS's record time in engineering this mech has not afforded the company with proper time for testing... it could literally rattle itself apart if we are not careful, however we did use LocTite.

==Variants:==
Well... you have one ton to play with... if you don't like the -1A ER ML (the most efficient weapon in BTech) than by all means change it.  Only choices you have (I think) are -1B ML (not enough range, and we have plenty of HS), -2B SPL (Not enough damage or range), -1M MG (Good for garrison duty perhaps), Flamer (do you like the hot seat?), and -1T TAG (a possible winner if teamed with a -1A variant.

Currently deployed in the unforgiving battleground of the HMPro forum.

Well, the idea is to have a quick, get-in-and-get-out design that could do recon, but could at least protect itself and take a few hits in the process. In this case, "Combat Worthy" must means has a weapon and some armor, as opposed to some of the Mach 1.5 vehicle designs we've seen (which will be a subject for another contest, I'm sure).

==Overview:==
The Speedy Gonzalez II is named after the late, great Professor Frank Guido Gonzalez, from NAIS, who spearheaded a number of high speed vehicle proejcts. After Professor Gonzalez' untimely demise in yet another accident testing a prototype, his chief assistant, Ibrahim Chang, took over responsibility for the project.

Unfortunately, the passing of Professor Gonzalez also put a crimp in the
budget for the project. It was simply no longer possible to buy the extra
light fusion engines necessary to achieve such tremendous speeds. This did, however, have the advantage that fewer prototypes were destroyed by accidents during testing.

Chang's final model, the Gonzalez II, is designed to be a low cost
scout/harasser for use by March and planetary militias. It has succeeded well in thhis role in testing to date and the AFFC HC is considering putting the design into production to quickly fill out the ranks in militia units at low
cost. Production can begin relatively quickly as the wheeled chassis allows
easy conversion of most automobile plants to military production.

Based heavily on the sucess of the Shamash Reconnaissance vehicle produced by
clan Blood Spirit, Clan Snow Raven decided to try to create a recon vehicle
that had more armor better speed and one that would pose a serious threat to
any vehicle and many light and even medium mechs.


==Capabilities:==
Amazing speed and above average armor have given the Fire Wisp a very
interesting reputation. In tests they have been able to survive and win duels
with mechs up to twice its size. Capable of bursts of speed up to 302 Km/h it
can quickely close and or disenguage to get a better targeting solution or
leave the battlefield alltogether. In keeping with the spirit of Shamash Recon
vehicle the Fire Wisp has only one crew person and much like the Shamash  and
her pilots, Fire Wisp pilots have developed at an alarming rate. Reliance on
themselves only has allowed them to excell and have the mind set of loyal
dedicated Mechwarriors.
Intended to allow the pilot a longer stay in the field, some minor changes
were required.
One of the few complaints with the Shamash recon vehicle was the poor frontal
visibility. To remedy this clan Snow Raven scientists moved the turred and
cockpit assembly. The turret rests right above and behind
the cockpit. A light Active probe unit was added to help the Fire Whisp avoid possible ambushes.

==Deployment==
Currentely the highest numbers of Fire Wisp are with Clan Snow Raven, but a
surprisingly high number have shown up in the taumans of the Diamond Shark and
even more surprising is the alarming amount found in the tauman of Clan Nova
Cat. It has been assumed that the Diamond Shark merchants have been selling
tto the Inner Sphere for a while now and this may be one of the first signs of
that clans double dealing. Its also rumored that the Nova Cats purchased the
vehicles before they abandonded the home worlds and joined the new Star
League.

Well, some time ago someone posed the question of how far/high something could jump and it became apparent that nothing with more the 8MP of jump existed...

So, eschewing top speed, if give you a blisteringly fast mech capable of jumping 300m. AND it can still scout and defend itself. It's another Diamond Shark mech built for possible sale to discriminating IS buyers who operate in extremely mountainous regions or the most dense urban sprawl.

 Post subject: We Have a Winner!

Okay, I'm going to call this one. The winner, within the specs and criteria given, is chainsawassassin's Hydrofoil "Thunder (in paradise?)", capable of speeding along at 27/41 (or 443 km/h = 275 mph), and going 5 points of damage with its Clan ER Small Laser. I chose it over the DarkStar2011's Sea Strike, which could travel the same speed, do to the laser's ability to keep putting out its damage, while the Sea Strike's Rocket Launcher is a one-shot.

I mentioned that due to the limited usefulness of a naval vessel (on land, at least), I thought I'd have a second contest for the same thing, only non-naval. Right now Marwynn's Battlebee has that honor, a 25/38 VTOL, also with an ERSL. If someone has a non-naval unit that abides by the rules and is faster than that, please let me know. Otherwise, I think I'll call it the winner in that class.

Would both chainsawassassin and Marwynn please email me the HM files, along with at least /some/ fluff (this is your chance to be famous, after all), and I will place these winners on HeavyMetalPro.com. If you have an original drawing or mini that you feel portrays your design, please feel free to include that as well. If not, I can include a logo (standard or custom) of your choice on the sheet; just send it to me or let me know.
