Okay, you guys knew it had to happen. I apologize for these /fastest/ /highest/ contests, but 1) They're easy for me to do and judge, and I'm trying to get them going quickly, and 2) Everyone always wants to know the answer to the questions. So:

HIGHEST BATTLE VALUE LEVEL 3 BATTLEMECH

* Must be a BattleMech but NOT an LAM (I'm going to have another contest for them).

* Can be Inner Sphere or Clan technology base.

* Design must be made using HeavyMetal Pro.

* Can be a Level 1, 2 or 3 design.

* No armor or damage points are specified. I figure any high-BV design will have a good deal of both. ;-)

* Custom weapons or equipment are not allowed.

* Extra points will be given for originality.

* Points will be deducted if the design is not balanced, or is not combat worthy (for example, /if/ 10 TAG systems gave higher BV than 5 Gauss Rifles, the 10 TAG system would /not/ win).

* In case of ties, extra weighting will be given to lower cost.

* Post your entry in Text TRO format, using CODE tags. Also include a Link to the Uploaded design for reference. See rules for more details.

I would think they would /reduce/ BV. Although maybe not, as they add I think 50% of the normal BV, yet don't create any heat that must be reduced by heat sinks, for BV purposes.

I think that the boost in BV for rear firing weapons is based upon the idea that a mech that can defend itself against units that have sneaked into its rear arc is more valuable than a mech that must turn to engage them. As for heat not being used, it is probably not added for the weapons because of the rarity of their firing.

Rear firing weapons will increase the BV in a 'Mech that is already suffering from reductions in BV due to overheating. (I've boosted the BV on a lot of 'Mechs just by turing an ML around.)

Well, I took one of Maverick's designs with rear-firing lasers, and made them front-firing, and believe it or not, the BV came out /exactly equal/! :shocked:

It may have been a fluke, but the halved BV for the weapons themselves was made up for by the increase (or less decrease) for more heat sinks, and total BV came out within .02 BV!

Interesting. However, it might nmot be such a fluke with Clan weapons. Their BV is so high that it might equal (or maybe even exceed) the heat penalties. It does work wonderfully with IS designs, though.

Okay, I'm going to call Krzysztof's Running Man (Glowstick Edition) as the winner, with a spectacular BV of 6,007 (even though I was able to up his design to 6,049 BV by adding 2 heat sinks and reducing armor a bit to compensate). (Armor with that mod is still a fairly reasonable 256, and the extra 4 heat come in handy on a 'Mech that goes up like a roman candle or Saturn V launch when/if it alpha strikes (with a damage potential of up to 180 points). ;-) )

Even though the design is not very practical (too many weapons, not enough heat sinks), it certainly is battle-worthy, and therefore qualifies as the winner. Krzysztof, if you will please add some fluff to your design, and give yourself credit for the design on the Notes section, then email it to me along with how you'd like your name listed, I'll get it posted on the HM site. If you would prefer to make my suggested mods to get the 6,049 BV, feel free to, or leave it as is, your choice. The only reason I'm suggesting the mod is that it's such a minor one, and might prevent someone else from doing just that and claiming the design as theirs.

Anyhow, congrats on some really incredible designs; the runners-up by Leon and others are certainly nothing to sneeze at either, garning almost as much BV with designs that are a bit more realistic (that is, have more heat sinks). :-)

This contest is now closed, and therefore the topic is being locked. If in the future someone comes up with a new design that increases the BV even further, please email me with the design and information.
