Okay, this contest is going to be different than the rest, because you get to decide the winner. First, the thread will be open for all to add their designs. After quite a few designs are in place, I will add a Poll to the thread, so that all of you get to decide the winner.

The subject? Most Improved Inner Sphere 'Mech:

* Choose any standard Clan 'Mech. I suggest using one of the files available for HMPro as a basis.

* Improve it, using Level 2 equipment only.

* All designs are to be posted in Text TRO format, using code tags.

* strongly suggest removing all standard fluff from the design. Instead, add any desired fluff concerning why the changes you've made are desireable.

* Speed can be changed, but not more than +/- 1 MP.

* (Armor restriction removed)

* Since these are to be /improvements/, cost should be considered. The idea is to make a Star Commander choose your design over others; but he has to /pay/ for and maintain it.

* Keep its flavor and design's roll in mind, as they should be the same. The idea is to /improve/ it, not completely change it.

* I suggest that when posting and, later, voting, everyone keep these suggestions in mind. If someone turns a Fire Moth into a slow, fire-support 'Mech, I'd suggest it should not be selected. But you will be voting, so...

2) Please NUMBER your design, and put both the number and name in the Subject line. Most of the time we leave it blank, but it will help greatly if we add a number (starting at one, and counting up) and name to the Subject line, so as to identify it for poll purposes more easily.

The Snow Fox was designed as a second line scout for Clan Ice Hellion It was
decided that it needed improvement by replacing the standard engine with an XL
it was possable to add 3 ER mediums and 2 ER small lasers giving it a total of
 4 of each.

==Capabilities:==
The improvements to this mech have changed it from a mere scout to a dangerous
raider giving it a formidable amount of fire power and the high speed enables
it to close quickly and its quad layout gives it a level of stability that can
make it a VERY dangerous foe in icy conditions.

==Deployment==
This mech is just now entering service being sent to light stars stationed on
planets with large amounts of pack ice and glaciers.

==Overview:==
     The Stormcrow S (Striker) first debuted among Smoke Jaguar forces in
3059, just prior to Operation Bulldog. When the reborn Star League Defense
Force first smashed into the Smoke Jaguar Occupation Zone, they were astounded
by the sheer lethality of this new variant. After the conclusion of Operations
Bulldog and Serpent and the Annihilation of the Smoke Jaguars, only Clan Nova
Cat, who had captured a handful of the new Stormcrow variants in various
Trials, possessed them. The Nova Cat scientist caste, seeing the enormous
potential in the design, immediately began distributing Omni packages of this
variant to frontline units.

==Capabilities:==
     Mounting five ER medium lasers and a pair of Streak-6 launchers, the
Stormcrow S has an armament that is simple and yet deadly. The medium lasers
are tied into a targeting computer that gives lethal accuracy. Combined with
an ECM suite, Stormcrow S pilots usually try to close in at top speed and pick
the enemy apart with highly accurate laser and missile fire. Jump jets add to
the design's already considerable maneuverability, and surprise most
opponents, who do not expect to see jump jets on design that until now has
never had a variant that mounted them.

     Although the Stormcrow is uncommon amongst the Nova Cats, most front-line
clusters field at least a few, and most are now configured in the Striker
variant.

==Overview:==
  When the FRR invaded the Wolf OZ in the late 3060s, they found many things.
They learned of the terrors heaped on their former worlds.  They learned of
the strength of the Wolf.  They also found a deadly new OmniMech, called the
Warg by the Wolves they captured.  Sadly, the force was unable to salvage a
working Warg, but battlefield logs and gun camera footage have allowed them to
put together an accurate picture of the mech.  It appears to be a direct
upgrade of the older Gargoyle.  While slower, the firepower tossed around by
the mech is impressive, and these new Omnis have been responsibkle for the
destruction of almost two companies of FRR mechs. 

==Capabilities:==
   Downgrading the 400XL engine to a 320XL gave the designers a lot of space
to work with.   The fixed heat sinks were removed, and the internal structure
was made from endo steel, although this necessitated the removal of the
ferro-fibrous armor. The primary configuration appears to be a direct upgrade
of the Gargoyle Prime, with the autocannons bulked up, the SRMs replaced with
streak models, and a quad of extended range medium lasers for close range
support.
  The other configurations mount a wide variety of weapons, from three gauss
rifles in the A config to a massive array of close range weaponry in the S
configuration.  There is a rumor that one model mounts Arrow-IV artillery,
suggesting that the Naga is also being replaced.
  The Warg is much deadlier than its predecessor, the Gargoyle.  While slower,
several configurations mount jump jets for improved mobility, and the
increased firepower is well worth it.    Armor was also increased, reaching
the maximum for a mech of its size.

==Deployment==
   All of the Wolves Gargoyle and Naga factories have been retooled to produce
the new Omnimech.  Only about a trinary of the mechs have been produced to
date, all going to Star Captains and Colonels in front-line units.

Perhaps you didn't read the fluff. Its an improvement of the Gargoyle. Sure, the configs are very different, but the main improvement is in the base chassis, and the configurations show what can be done with those changes.

==Overview:==
This upgrade of the King Crap by Clan Cloud Cobra makes realatvly simple
changes but the changes that are made greatly increas its effectivness with
out changing the flavor of the mech the main change was swapping the standard
fussion enginefor an XL  freeing up massive amounts of tonnage.enabling significant
upgrades in weaponry.

==Capabilities:==
The upgrades have made this already formidable design even more scary. the
XClass 20 Autocannon were replaced by Ultra versions of the same type the LRM
15 was replaced by an Advanced Tactical missile system with 3 tons of ammo for
the 12 tube launcher typicaly  carrying one ton of each type.The large laser
was replaced by and extended range version and finaly an extended range
partical projection cannon was added .This mech runs hot dispite having 18
double strenght heat sinks. How ever with carefull volley fire heat can be
controlled Usualy the ER large laser and ER PPC are used  with the long range
ATM rounds are used initialy. At closer range the energy weapons are switch of
and the Autocannon are used along with the short range ATM rounds. the ammo
load is rather light but the energy weapons have decent hitting power and are
still dangerous after the ammo runs out.

==Overview:==
Replacing the torso mounted ER PPC with a Large Pulse Laser allows it a
continuous rate of fire with its three primary weapons while running. Heavy
Medium Lasers replace the Medium Pulse Lasers for a close-in punch. A Targeting Computer gives its weapons a little extra accuracy. The price tag for this beast is around 100,000 C-Bills less than the standard Marauder IIC.

==Overview:==
The Grizzly II was designed by Clan Ghost Bear as a fast heavy mech that could
compete with the Summoner and Timber Wolf omnimechs at a lower price point.

The first thing was to replace the gauss rifle in an extended range PPC to
maintain the damage capacity while removing the reliance on ammunition for the
main ranged weapon system.

The LRM system was removed in favour of a pair of ER medium lasers.

The 280 rated fusion engine was removed and a 350XL fitted to allow the
Grizzly II to match the movement of the Timber Wolf and Summoner mechs, a
fifth Jump Jet was added and the existing four were relocated from the legs to
the rear of the torso.

The standard armour was replaced with 11.5 tons of ferro plate to maximise the
protection.

The heat dissipation system was upgraded to allow for continuous use of all of
the weapons systems installed on the mech.

This has lead to a more expensieve mech than the Grizzly, however the increase
in capability while removing the complex logistics requirements of an omnimech
means that the Grizzly II fits well with the clan ideals on minimising waste.

     The Hunchback IIC 2 is a most surprising version of the original 'Mech.
While the original IIC is clearly intended as a last assignment for warriors
on their way out, this version is not.
     The IIC 2 was designed by Jade Falcon scientists to work in conjuction
with their elemental Headhunter points. Which is why this is an Omni 'Mech so
it can carry elementals though it has no other variants. The two ER PPCs tied
into a targeting computer give an enhanced accuracy that is unmatched. The
MASC gives it a top speed of 108 km/h which is fast enough to catch most
command 'Mechs of their enemies.

A popular second line mech amng the Snow Raven, the Clint IIC designs came into Goliath Scorpions hands after a technoological trade whit the first clan. The GS Khan, looking for a cheap mech for the new sekeer Chi galaxie put the clan scientits to redesign the mech. The costrly XL engine was scraped in favor of a more cheap standard fusion engine whit double force heat sinks. The entire armament was redesigned, whit the LB 10-X autocannon beign replaced whit a Ripper Series A1 ER PPC  for ammo independency, and the Series 2d ER Medium Lasers beign relocated to the left arm, addigng one more in the left torso. A targeting computer was added to respect the Scorpion traditionsin marksmanship. And the armor was replaced whit ferro-fibrous for more protection in in the arms, legs and torsos. This new, powerfull (and cheap) battletech will shine among the seekers lines.

A common variant of the venerable Grizzly, this variant replace the Gauss rifle for two Extended Range Large Lasers  and the LRM 10 for a LRM 20 for more damage and reach, and add two er small laser in replace of the pulse small laser, adding one more medium pulse laser, 3 more heat sinks, and changing the location of the jump jets. This last move was recomended by Mechwarrior Ragnar, how pointed the error of puting jump jets in the legs. And for last the armor was replaced whit ferro-fibrous, maximaxing the protection of the mech in al his locations.

By 3050, the Great Wyrm had been out of production for almost two centuries;
despite the fact that many Clan militaries derided the machine as a relic of
the pre-Omni period, it still enjoyed widespread deployment.

One of the principal owners of the Great Wyrm was the Smoke Jaguar Clan, who
deployed a significant number of these machines to defend their holdings in

of the Draconis Combine. A handful of the captured Wyrms were disassembled for
research purposes; it has been suggested that the new DRG-7K Grand Dragon
incorporates some of the structural improvements from the Great Wyrm, but
these assertions have not been confirmed by the Combine.

The remaining Great Wyrms were mothballed in strategic reserve caches to
minimize deterioration, where they stayed until 3065, when the Nova Cats
approached the Combine government in hopes of reactivating these machines to
bolster their second-line Galaxies.

Unfortunately, it was discovered that inadequate storage measures had resulted
in serious deterioration of the cached Wyrms, particularly in the advanced
engine systems and the autocannon mounts. The Cats, however, were hard pressed
to acquire new Clan-grade technology, and launched a program to repair the
deterioration.

==Capabilities:==
It quickly became aparent to the Nova Cat technicians charged with renovating
these machines that a simply point-for-point equipment swap would be
difficult, since the GAA-22 cannons and the RFUM engine core were both absent
from the Cats' supply inventories and fairly difficult to replace with
swapouts. Initial experiments with mounting cannon pods intended for OmniMechs
proved promising, and would have proceeded had a Combine tech assigned to
liase with the project not pointed out that with those modifications, this
Clan machine would still be outperformed by off-the-shelf, Combine-produced
Grand Dragons.

The comparison with the Grand Dragon lead to a quick but fairly comprehensive
study of the remaining design similarities between the Wyrm and the Dragon,
and the viability of enacting an upgrade on the Wyrm with parallels to that
done with the old Dragon design.

Despite several delays brought on by parts-compatibility issues, a
combat-ready prototype of the Great Wyrm upgrade underwent trials in late 3066
with impressive results. The reworked design could match the Grand Dragon
weapon system for weapon system, and enjoyed the same 50% increase in maximum
operational combat speed that its Kurita cousin had.

The upgrade came essentially in two parts. First, the GAA-22 cannon array was
replaced with a type DDS ("Kingston") particle cannon of the same type used on
the upgraded Warhammer; this nearly doubled the average damaged deliverd by
the long-range weapons array. At the same time, the engine originally built
onto the Great Wyrm was replaced with the same XL fusion drive used on the
Shadow Cat OmniMech.

The structural modifications needed to accomidate the new engine (which was
designed for a 'mech with a distinctly different torso layout) increased the
overall bulk of the Great Wyrm, and the engineers deliberately used this
opportunity to dramatically increase the resemblance between the Wyrm and its
Grand Dragon counterpart. The outer body was replated with Combine-produced
Starshield armor (the same type used on the Dragon). The two small lasers in
the torso were removed as well, and a single medium laser as added to the left
arm; finally, the heat-dissipation system was reworked to allow the 'mech to
fire most of its weapons at all ranges.



==Battle History:==
The refitted Great Wyrm has only seem limited action against border raids, but
overall performance has been positive; the Wyrm is able to outperform most
Spheriod 'mechs as large as 20 tons heavier than it, though the Wyrm's lack of
jump jets can be a hindering factor, and its light armor protections makes it
vulnerable to heavy weapons.

EDITOR'S NOTE: During the Jihad (and after the initial publication of this
technical readout), the refitted Great Wyrm saw extensive action against the
Blakists. In most cases, it performed excellently, though a number of advanced
designs (such as the Lightray) were often able to close with and overcome the
Wyrm. Less than a dozen upgaded Great Wyrms survived the Jihad, and most were
placed in museums during the disarmament process. Unconfirmed reports suggest
that many of these machines have recently been reactivated, but it remains to
be seen if they will still be operational after the many years in storage.

==Variants:==
It is estimated that only twenty or so Great Wyrms were given the original
upgrade package; in 3067 the Combine government acquired a license for a less
expensive (but heavier) L-270 drive system from the Wolf Dragoons. This
component cut overall costs by about a million C-Bills, and all remaining
Great Wyrms are to be upgraded with the L-270s instead of the old SC-types.

Initial reports suggest that while the new engines are more cost effective,
they have heat dissipation problems that require more conservative weapons
use. What effect exactly this will have on battlefield performance is still
undetermined.

==Deployment==
The changes necessitated by this upgrade were not without cost; a fully
upgraded Great Wyrm had nearly twice the overall materials cost as a stock
model, but the added cost was directly reflected in performance.

Ultimately, only a handful of the Combine's cached Great Wyrms received the
initial upgrade package, but with the development of the less expensive (2B)
refit, it is now expected that all remaining examples will be refitted by
3070.

'Mechs ever manufactured. While such machines bring awesome firepower to the
battlefield, ultimately, commanders cannot use them effectively because they

    The Behemoth features three Gauss cannons and an ER PPC mounted in each
torso. The arm-mounted weapons feature retractable shock-absorbing cowls
covering the barrels which allow the pilot to use the arms as battering rams
without damaging the delicate accumulator assemblies.

In Combat trials this Stone Rhino variant destroyer a full Trinary of mixed
Mechs, and limped off the field.

    A small number of these 'Mechs have been sighted in the Smoke Jaguar Clan.
No other Clan appears to field this design, but because it is a venerable
design, we suspect that the few existing are widely spread throughout the
Clans.
