I think blue hair had something planned, something he would really not enjoy, and diplobabe just did everything she could to insulate him from that plan, whatever it was.

When did he start bluffing? And why would they think he's an diplomat in charge? Oh hey, as the lone survivor of Bellarmine, he IS the Large and In Charge Diplomat! Anyways all related parties speak the same language that includes military ranking, and diplomatic officer herself promotes ensign Jardin to captain (rank spoken by herself). And then was the mindmeld thingy... it didn't extract all the info but maybe enough to confirm that he's the Lowliest Pleb on-board

And just being starship officer of race that has just achieved interstellar travel should mean that he's not from bottom of the barrel either. Those guys should be what astronauts & cosmonauts are right now + military training + in case of the Bellarmine & sister ships, the very least basic course of diplomacy! Try pass ALL of THAT!

Using Telepathy as a long range radar. But they can't see Terrans with it. They can't speak with him telepathically. They can't read his mind.

And somehow the "Big Bad" expected this and came prepared with tactics to take advantage of this.

I wonder...is this the first time they have fought in this region of space?

Hmm...I crazy thought here, but are Terrans are great big walking Telepathic ECM generator? If so...um...if so, it would seem that the best way for the Elven Hot Chicks to win would be to eliminate the Terrans so the Big Bad can't use our jammers on them.

The pieces don't all fit, but if the Orgus where sent by the Umiak, ether 'cause the Umiak knew something about Humanity, or snuck in some retrovirus with the Orgus, to get Humanity into the way . . .

The trick here is how and when Umiak scored some test samples of Loroi and Human together.

None of which explains how the proplyd fits in: It's part of the main jamming effect; It's a second layer, confusing our understanding of the primary jamming effect; Something else?

I'm assuming there's no non-committed Loroi assets, just out of system but in contact with the Tempest & Co., acting as pickets: It seems all the precogs are in the main body, in the proplyd, and thus jammed. A precog nowhere near this fleet could have seen the Bellarmine, if they thought to look, if they could get in contact with Tempest, if it's not something about Humans . . .

We know the precogs onboard can't sense a Human meters away right now; We don't know what them precogs can sense right now . . .

But the Umiak seem to have known they'd get the Loroi together with some Humans (mostly dead?) in that proplyd . . .

The Umiak have a new King Hell stealth tech, and this is the roll out: By tricking Humanity to show up (and having riddled the Human systems with stealth pickets), they can present the Loroi with a scapegoat to waist time and energy on, thus lengthening the time it's effective.

The Umiak probably do know what Humans look like, but can't help it; We don't know a thing about Umiak social interaction, so we don't know if they could estimate how the Loroi might get along with any noob, let alone "Pinky"; We don't know how Umiak estimate risk, so we don't know what they thought of these two races playing nice together. (Do they think there are more then "client states" and "the dead"?)

There is the start of a comic that I would probably really enjoy here. However at an average update rate of one panel every 2 months I can't say that I'm left feeling overly enthusiastic.

I certainly understand that point of view. I'd like to produce a new page every week, but since each page still takes me somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 hours to complete -- and I'm not a student or a housewife or a wealthy gentleman -- that's not always possible. Especially when my work ethic is crap to begin with.

However, I certainly do appreciate folks who are willing to make the effort to follow the story despite the erratic update schedule.

The Loroi didn't invent either spoken language or radios -- they stole both technologies from others -- but spoken language was a useful tool of parley in an age before radios when a) communicating telepathically with an enemy Loroi was giving her a direct path to attack your brain, and b) you wanted to lie to someone, but telepathy makes it very difficult to lie.

And as they say you can pick between 2 of the following: cost, speed, and quality.

This is one of the best looking comics I have ever seen. I hope one day you push it out as a print comic, because I would love to wrap my fingers around this.

Yeah: I picked up on the part where "speaking is for lyres", and how that's going to be hundreds of years of scar tissue in this relationship.

I do tend to forget how these girls are someone's vat-grown warrior caste, so they got to skip some development issues . . .

I also forgot how they now tend to wear amps for their psionics, so they could have needed a signal corps for mid-sized land battle, millennia ago . . .

If I can make a suggestion, Erfworld ran into a similar problem for book 2. The author found out that he was having problems doing weekly updates, and decided to post text updates too. The readers basically are in it for the story, and don't need things like walking up stairs, or the same conference table drawn in excruciating detail for 3 panels. The result was usualy a weekly post of a "text update" with a single picture to establish mood, and biweekly comic posts, which were regular comic pages.

It gives the author room for exposition, and to sidetrack and expound on information that would be a waste of time to draw into the comic.

You could post them as Log entries ala startrek, maybe he's filling the digital memory card of his old space suit with "audio only" entries.

"Survivors log, entry 15. It has been 3 days since I regained consciousness. Due to security concerns I'm only using this audio log to comment on facts rather than theory. I was told that these digital chips are imposible to hack, but after what i've seen of lorali technology i am hesitant to trust in htem too much. Since my encounter on the bridge we have been engaged in a cat and mouse chase, something the lorali are decidedly unused to being on the receiving end of. The tension is so thick in the air you could cut it with a knife, and from what I've seen of them, i think i know WHICH lorali would be like to do the cutting. I noticed another interesting thing about my erstwhile rescuers today..." and cut to an exposition on how the caste system works, or how the power management on the ship works, or the more efficient oxygen reclamation systems... perhaps an observation on the personalities of the various characters, and cap it with a picture of an exhausted ensign talking into a headset sticking out of an an empty spacesuit in his quarters.

It would fit thematically with your comic and get you to put out material faster (or at least on a regular schedule) and help you to retain readers a bit better.
