What happens when you have only one customer, and they're not buying. I suppose that as smaller jets have become longer ranged and more efficient, the market just isn't there.

Unless they can make bigger planes do more and roomier and offer something to the masses I see the larger planes going the way of the airships. At this rate the SST planes should come back.

The problem with SST or other supersonic air travel concepts is that jets are LOUD, and supersonic jets even more so. Loud enough to actually cause damage to property and hearing at low altitudes. Noise was one of the biggest limitations of the Concorde and its Russian counterpart, whose designation escapes me at the moment. And as development has encroached on a lot of airports, that kind of thing isn't likely to be accepted, since it's already a big issue around urban airports and military bases today, such as NAS Oceana.

Not to stray off topic it, but if you live next to an airport or military base loud noises are going to be common and to complain is pointless. Yes I know people are not rational when it comes to things.

Emirates placed another order so the A380 will stay in production for a little bit longer maybe long enough to be still available for when big 747 users like British Airways need to replace their fleet.

In related news, Airbus mulling an increase in production on the A320 and A350 due to demand for those smaller jets. Unfortunately, the A400M seems to be heading for F-35 money pit territory...

That's the problem with NAS Oceana. The air station has been there since approximately WW2, and used to be surrounded by miles of country fields. Now as VA Beach has grown, development has encroached on places that it was actually promised wouldn't be developed, right up to the base. The base was there first, and is a major contributor to the local economy, yet the local residents who weren't invited to move in, have the nerve to complain about it. The Navy's attitude is simple: "We were here first, and we're the reason you're free to complain, so screw you." As it should be.

But that's VA Beach for you. The modern city was founded by bourgeois white flighters from Norfolk, which incidentally was one of the last major cities in the USA to desegregate schools. They fought on the wrong side of history as long as they could, then ran to their own fake city full of scared white yuppies. I'd actually support global climate change and rising sea levels if it would only wipe VA Beach off the map. Bah.
