Basically, the pilot was orienting himself with the ship purely by his instruments and the ship's electronic landing aids. That somewhat hard left bank he made was him coming out of the pattern and lining up to land.
No doubt the whole thing had his butt so tight it was about to suck the cushion off his ejection seat, because humans are highly visual creatures. When our vision is limited, we start feeling a lack of control, which can lead to Bad Things like panic. He had to make himself trust his equipment, and try not to think about the near-zero visibility and "What happens if...". To that end, I imagine he was probably just focusing on his panel and HUD and trying not to look outside at all.
