LOTR: ROTK finally played on base and my family and I saw it this afternoon.

Damn impressive film to say the least. The charge of the Rohan Warriors is my favorite scene and I even got misty with Theoden's fall. I liked the guy. Very human, and his words before leading his men into battle...I liked that too. The Witch King's city (Mortis something) was equally impressive, though not much of it was shown, but it conveyed the evil well enough for me.

So, to Mr. Jackson and the thousands of others that brought this book to life on the big screen, thank you. It was a helluva experience for me and my wife and children. Thank you.

I realize the chances that any of them may read this here on this forum are slim, but I thought it should be said anyways.

I didnt like the last half-hour. To go from all that non-stop hard action to 30 minutes of boringness, was difficult to say the least.

I also didnt like the horses and extreme violence in this movie because I then had to listen to my wife tell me repeatedly our children wouldnt be watching this movie and that is was so mean to the horse to show them getting killed and eaten.

Yes she realizes it wasn't real, but it was real enough for her.

IMO it's a great movie and the ending though long does not cover half of what is in the book. Rescripting those parts were, IMO, necessary but unfortunate.

I am looking forward to the extended cut to see what else there is to see.

Sorry about your wife's attitude there Longwalker. Horses died in war more often than men when they were the primary form of er horsepower. :-?

This is a little more off topic but does anyone who knows the history behind the book seem a tad dismayed. I mean it went from a fairly radical political book to what is now, as far as I can tell, simple fantasy. Granted I too loved the movies, just something lost in a few generations.

We were supposed to have it 31 Dec, play for 2 days every showing (both at Yokosuka and Atsugi). Some reason, the film just didn't make it through the mail...so they're just showing Runaway Jury, Brother Bear and Master & Commander.

/sighs

Check aafes.com, but I think its playing here (Yokota) for nearly the entire week with multiple showings. We saw the 1100 show yesterday and the theater was half full/empty. I'll be going again sometime this week.

That's the Navy vs Air Force for ya...we probably had it sent to us parcel post. AF probably sent it on orders!

It was all over Eagle 810 on Wednesday. I gather the MWR folks were trying to recall the traffic jam before it needlessly happened.

Are you implying keeping secret that the delivery of movies to our troops is a mattter of national security? :o

Yes, it should be classified! Morale is a major thing in the Armed Forces and I'd hate to see LOTR:ROTK get stolen by a bunch of soon-to-be EPWs! :D

Its bad enough that they are kicking themselves over missing the Naval Tactical Warfare Simulator Codenamed 'Master and Commander'. There is no telling the mischeif when they find out there's a loose copy of the Land Tactical Warfare Simulator Codenamed 'Lord Of The Rings :Return Of The Kings'

I loved the end, though I was waiting for Frodo in his last "off screen words" to Sam to say "You can follow us later." Was annoyed when he didn't...:(

I would imagine that most/all of the post-Mordor stuff will appear in the 87-disc Special Edition Director's Cut Version

Its a radio station for Americans (specifically DoD) in Tokyo...AM. The only English-all-the-time radio here and nothing related (at all) to operational security.

It was a great movie! Actually, I liked all three, though that's not surprising - I first read the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings when I was about 7 or 8 years old (MANY years ago).

Personally, I think that Peter Jackson should be congratulated. I have my gripes with the movies, but overall IMO he did an amazing job of translating the books onto the big screen. Sure, he made changes, but I think that most of his changes were for the better. In some cases, he even improved on the story.

(And to change the topic slightly, I've been told that I'm the spitting image of Peter Jackson, though I'm taller. When I saw a picture of him, even I was surprised... if I grew a beard and let my hair grow, I'd look just like him!)

My daughter and I have had a big laugh about the humans being saved by an undead army! Not something you see everyday in RPGs.

Pesent woman: M'Lord what is it, what do you see?

Soldier on Castle wall: It's...It's...It's an ndead army heading this way.

Pesent woman: (*falling to her knees*) Oh Good lord... WE'RE SAVED!

See what I mean?

The Dead made me think of army and Subadi ants swarming their kills. I laughed my buttuckses (I have two, contrary to popular belief) off!
