I have had one of the worst weekends ever. Other than the ones I spent in the hospital saveral years ago, but that's another story.
Whilst Merc Chick was playing with the computer, it crashed. Hard. Ouch! Could not get the stupid thing to boot at all, safe mode or not. Ended up replacing the hard drive. (I'm gonna try to recover the data off the old one when I get the extra time.) Setting up the drive was a pain in the butt. Nothing wanted to work until about 4 a.m. this morning.
Now I've got a larger HD, a bunch of lost (or at least misplaced) data, and several goodies.
After this weekend, I needed a day like today. Got the drive working, my DSL account activated in good time, and I got two Unseen Wolverines in the mail from my sister. Combine that with the stuff I got to buy Saturday (4 new Lego sets, Fafner BA, MAp Set 7 and a Shadow Cat for MC), Discord's a happy little pirate again. :)

(BTW, my e-mail addy is gonna be changing very soon, so I've put my good ol' Yahoo account up in my profile if ya'll need to get in touch with me until I get my new account set up.)

No rush. I hope to have the NBC defense revsion up this week but the last essay is going to take a lot of research. Between school and work I doubt I will have it finished by the end of March. And Medron offered to host the essays too. :D

I had a hard drive die on me, too. Luckily, I was able to recover all the data.

First, the Bad News (tm): I wasn't able to recover the data. It's gone. Oh well.

The Good News (tm) is that now I've got an additional 50+ GB to play with. :)

And as for the Lego sets, a couple of the smaller Star Wars sets and one of the newer Lego Police sets. The Plastic Liberation Army gains in strength  !

Discord you sound like my brother when it comes to lego. He has more sets than I care to count including the StarWars Star Destroyer. He has a whole room devoted to them. I call it his Lego Shrine.

I dunno, I just bought the mini Star Destroyer, and it was only like $7... The big one I couldn't buy because it was so flippin' big. I believe it's like 3,000 Legos... I don't think $350 is unreasonable for a scale model that is over 3 feet long.

Thanks to a handful of people (Calis, Bubbasan and Medron to name a few), I've been able to recover quite a bit of data I thought I lost. As soon as I can break out the old tower and set it up, I should recover a bit more. Yeah!!!!!!!! :hamster:  :hyper:  :hamster:

Arrrrrrgggghhhh! It happened again. Here's the newest sequence of events. I ran a virus scan, which showed nada. Then I shut down the computer. Everything was fine. (Except for falling asleep on the couch, but that's another story.) When Merc Chick started it up Weds. morning, it went straight to the HP recovery screen. I don't know what she pushed, but nothing worked. I was unable to do a partial recovery, non-destructive recovery and even the abandon-all-hope-kiss-your-data-goodbye-full recovery didn't work. I kept getting stupid error messages. (I don't know what a Fatal Systems Error is, but it doesn't sound good.) So, today I called the repair service I use, and after ignoring the HP recovery discs reloaded Windows XP. I didn't lose half as much this time, but it still hurt. :(

Might I suggest putting your data on a different partition/disk? That way you can reinstall all your programs and still not lose any of your own files.

Well what a coincidance! I have two pretty little Kittens that just turned 8 weeks old and are now old enough to go to a new home... Solid black too, perfect for night operations.
