I have been asked to host a battletech game in an urban environment. I don't have time or funds to purchase minature buildings and have decided to try to make minature buildings out of paper. Is there a program (inexpensive as possible, please) that will allow me to draw various kinds of buildings 3D quickly and easily?

Cardboard or thick poster paper works pretty well for quick block building construction. Just cut out an equilateral cross of the appropriate size, fold and tape into a box, and voila!

Legos also work well too, if you have them.

And in any case, if this is being done on short notice and you don't already have an existing collection of miniature buildings and urban terrain, your friends shouldn't be expecting you to produce a model railroadish artistic diorama. For a short notice battle on a tight budget, whatever's handy will have to do.

Foam packing containers of various shapes and sizes work out well too.

We printed out black & white pictures of real buildings and such and placed them on cardboard backing and cut out hex shapes.

Well "we" didn't, but the youngins we know had a "super fun project" to work on for a while.

Ahh child labour, gotta love it.

Could just use mapsheets. Not as visually impressive...but still, easiest solution to everything.
