Okay, a return to my obsession with balsa dowelling ... and what to do with all those spare parts from DA tanks you end up with when you kitbash using them.
First, the "30 minute Scorpion".
It's either a DA-scale Unseen Scorpion, or a massive CBT mini - a clickie Mech base fits just inside the feet, to give an idea of the size. You could easily fit this onto a click base if you put the legs in like the CBT Unseen mini, but I like this stance better. The base is a turret from a (IIRC) Behemoth DA tank; the main barrel of the gun is the knurled knob off a heat dial. The upper legs are balsa dowel glued more or less straight onto the turret, the lower legs plastic tube from Q-tips bulked up at the top with sticky label, the knees are clay and the feet are 10mm dolls eyes. This took 30 minutes to build, including glue drying time - try it sometime!
Another - the Galapagos:
An alternative long-laster to the Great Turtle, but I can't recall which tank yielded this turret, which I used more or less intact. I added toes for a slightly different look.
Now we enter the whacky zone, re-using odd bits from the bits box to produce 'Mechs. I recall there was a mention in some of the latter GDL books of a 'Scavenger' 'Mech - a quad used for obtaining battlefield salvage and noted for draining off coolant and other fluids. My take:
Lifting crane, several tanks and a hose for sucking up coolant, and some mandible jaws just for the fun of it. I statted it as a 30-tonner ICE Industrialmech, unarmed, with lifting hoist, cutting drill (the mandibles), 3 tons armour (stopping a ML, but that's about it) and 10 tons cargo capacity.
Also 30 tons, and carrying 10 tons of cargo - the Burrito (meaning little Burro, I think
)
Let's see who guesses what part of what DA thing formed the basis of this one! The Burrito is intended for moving cargo at industrialised starports, palletised loads sliding straight on & off the left-side rack.
Lastly, from whatever DA tank has 2 main guns (since removed), the Wombat.
Anywhere from 40 to 60 tons, armed with a pair of MGs, the Wombat carries a couple of platoons of infantry in internal bays, plus additional cargo either inside or slung on cargo hooks outside. Not what you'd want to take into combat, but a fun target for a scenario.
That's it for now
W.
