Back in 2003, I created my own personal mercenary unit 'The Thundering Herd' from a bunch of my favorite designs. Initially, the unit was two companies of inner sphere mechs and one company of armor. I decided to add a third company with some of my favorite clan mechs composing two of the lances.
The other lance was additional I.S. mechs. I also painted up several 'replacement' mechs to allow me to substitute them to change up some of my pre-assigned lances. Those have all been sold off and these 8 will soon be joining them. I thought I'd show them off a bit before they board the dropships and head off to their new homes. I'm shrinking the unit back to a mixed mech/armor battalion of all I.S. tech.

The Madcat MKII, Cougar and Shadowcat can be seen in the Miniatures Rules handbook published back in 2003. I used them as stand-ins for some Lyran Donegal mechs facing off against my Robinson Rangers when we took the pictures for the book. If you are interested, my stuff can be seen on pages 7,62 and 63.

They are just normal IWM hexbases. I paint and flock them with a mixture of extra fine railroad ballast and terrain flocking. These were sealed with a 'martian soil' mixture of testors dullcoat and brick red laquer to give the base an even color and to match my martian sands hex mat.
Every mech I paint is meant to be gamed with, and my bases are expected to take abuse and stay flocked. It's been working great for over 10 years. :D
