Does Painting matter?
Here is a link ( http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/201 ... mment-form )
Which the author says it does matter. I counter this with it doesn't matter if it takes away from the fun and enjoyment of the hobby or game, but I would like to hear what you folks say on the matter.

that depends on you... I guess. finding anyone to play a game with is tough, and painting helps me to relax also they look much better painted than not in my personal opinion :toast:

I don't think it's necessary. However, if you are playing in a public setting and trying to drum up support at your local store/club, then it becomes necessary. Having pretties for the casual spectator to look at is definitely a plus in this situation.

I've played plenty of games with unpainted minis. And with painted minis. I won't say I didn't enjoy the games with unpainted minis as well, but I've always enjoyed painting them. and my son puts a lot of time and care an skill into his complex paint jobs and even landscaping the bases. We appreciate that work, and of course it's easier to differentiate two or more of the same mini if they're painted.

So, I say it's not required, but it sure is fun. It's a bit like saying that minis themselves are not required to have fun playing BattleTech: proxies (from buttons to chess pawns) work, and certainly the cardboard standups from the old game boxes work. But it's just nice playing with "scale models" and not proxies.

Same with 3D game boards: not required, but fun and look neat.

I have played with both, but when it becomes a rule to have to paint all your minitures and even flock all your bases it just removes the joy which is why I stopped playing with Games Workshop stuff as could no longer get a game in store without having to do that.

I do not think it is necessary if you are playing with friends, but like St33lf4ng commented, it helps if you are playing in a public setting to attract potential new players. And I have personally never been one to play so strictly that can cannot substitute one mini for another. But I have found it helps to have a lot of "cardboard" pieces to stand in when you can.
