Here's another lam for the LamHAs' to prove their point.........

Watchout !!! The Great Chickenhawk of the Sky will fly over you and dump copious amounts of bird dodoo all over you.

This was done as a bet, a dare, a challenge to see if I could get this mech, a Scylla off the ground.

I completely cut the torso apart and repositioned the cockpit 90 degrees to the vertical. I did a step by step tutorial with photos from start to finished mini.

OK, Now you LamHAs' get out your LBX10s' and start shooting :rifle:

Hilarious and awesome paint job. Excellent job on the detail. Might be nice to have some defined talons on the feet.

Nice conversion. If you wnat some constructive criticism, read on, if not, just PM me and tell me to shut up. anyway,

Having one leg higher than the other is going to put this thing into a horrendous spin.

Maybe might the leg in the slipstream serves as a rudder I notice that it lacks vertical control surfaces

JackMc................ I just love your comments................

To be honest, I just didn't feel like slicing a leg section out, reposing the leg and reputtying it so both legs locked in a side by side static pose.

Yeah, I could see that. Since this thing is in forward flight the relative wind would be coming from head on so getting a leg up like that should pitch the nose up and roll the craft towards the right. At some point the combination of pitch and roll should result in the belly of the craft coming into contact with the relative wind. Might be a interesting way to decel in a hurry. It'd be wicked harsh on the airframe, but man would it look cool. Of course that's conjecture since the only airframe I've ever flown was my own bod, in RL YMMV.

But you know this has got me to thinking, and now I realize why I don't like LAMs, they remove the need for combat drops. Being both an armor nut and jumper, the idea of getting paid to make a skydive and then immediately afterwards getting to stomp around in a walking tank blowing things to high heaven just ROCKSSSSSSSSSS! Of course, I may be biased too.

Now why would it need vertical tail surfaces ???

Just for grins, there's the WWII Horton Bros flying wing - Northrops Cold War flying wing - and the current B2 - delta winged ultralights.

Seems all of those can fly without tail sufaces.

I realize its a stretch but this mini is purely for fun............... :dunno:

Looking at the work done to make this LAM, and the tongue-in-cheek sense of humor of its creator, I get the feeling that I know this person as a competitor from a few years back from while bidding on E-bay.

Vaidom..................... Hello, and you're correct, "tis I".

If I remember, We were never competitors, seems to me, you always got the better deals with me in 2nd place...........

I was recently invited to this varied and interesting set of Forums, I'm enjoying the interplay and discussions. :D

However, be careful if you adopt a similar "tongue in cheek" - "sarcastic wit style" in your dialogues.

It tends to rub the more "thinned skinned troglodytes" the wrong way for some perplexing reason ??.

Perhaps, they can't recognize this form of interplay and hyperbole during an elevated interchange of social commentary through written discourse.

if ur trying to say there are lots of people lacking a sense of humour on the various bt boards i agree with u :P

as with any forum there are people who find the difference between t'internet and real life very hard to differentiate.

anyways i reckon ur next lam should look like an ostrich (so graceful in flight  )

Well, an advanced control system could compensate, but the 229 and most other vertical tailess flying wings made very poor gun platforms, being unable to maintain an accurate sight on the target.

Chickenhawk................I have to agree with that.............. we all know this monstrosity as comical as it looks could never get off the ground regardless of how advanced the control systems were.

Tailless wings................Perhaps as stable gun platforms equating to fighters I tend to agree. The early wings were inherently unstable and required flying skill to maintain it.

However, as long distance stable bombing platforms the wings would have excelled if given the chance.

The Northrop FW was built at the same time as the Convair B-36. That multi-engined "pork barrel", the largest flying bomber at the time was accepted by "Traditional aircraft designers".

The FW offered a faster aircraft - larger bomb load - longer distance - stable bombing platform than the B-36

This aircraft was junked strictly due to its unique design as being an unfamilar technology to the then Air Force Command.

Maybe. But a bomb sight is not all that unlike a gun sight, and it points forward of the plane by quite a distance. If the aircraft is weaving side-to-side during the bomb run, it will be very difficult to hit accurately.

But as I said, surely control systems in the 31st century have compensation for this kind of thing. ;-)

There were several flying wing designs so I maybe confused, but I thought the nail in the coffin was the same as several other "cutting edge" prototype designs, namely a spectacuarly fatal crash of the prototype.

I thought is was whem the NFW converted from piston to jet engines.

Those early jet engines were gas a holics and that killed the endurance end, so the AF went with the B-36 prop job with the mounted jet pods

of course I could be wrong ??.........

Actualy the Consolidated B-36 started out with only the 6 piston engines the four jets were added after a few marks were produced and it was decided they needed better performance.

Motown is correct about the B-36. IIRC Northrop's Flying Wing was known as the B-35. Help me on this one Motown. The D version was jet powered.

The jet version was built from modified YB-35s two were built and they were designated YB-49
