Just tinkering around with HMP after reading how some less favored units in the DCMS received an abundance of cast-off weapons from more fortunate units that were upgrading to newer tech.

Various fluff mentions while DHS, FF and ES were available (sometimes in very limited means) surplus weapons like LLs, PPCs, AC-5s and AC-10s were available in great quantities and these less favored units had to make do - which resulted in some surprising configs on older/classic mechs.

I've always like the color mech art in the original DCFM so inspired by the Nightstalker Atlas, I developed the AS7-N (Nightstalker) Atlas refit and tried to match the original RP mini and DCFM artwork.

Tech availability was based on guidance from 3039 Source book, and this design could exist anywhere between 3039 and present day.

Perhaps as more equipment became available or was "aquired".

Tried it out AS7-N in combat on MM and it works very well; I have some other minor upgrades on other mechs as well and may post them in the future.

I plan on playing most of my future campaigns in the 3039 to 3050 range and would like to see more canon info on the Ronin Wars as well.

I don't see the DHS.

If the DCMS couldn't put them on the Panthers because of rarity, I don't see a "cast off" unit getting them.

If I remember correctly the reason why the Atlas 7K, and the original Panther refit, didn't have double heat sinks was actually that the DCMS had problems reverse engineering them originally.

It certainly would explain those two refits at least.

Ditto on the DHS.

The DCMS just didn't have the availability for them.

Reworked with singles really makes sense, especially early on.

Coming to my bro's defense..

The Nightstalkers (I believe known for their scrounging ability) could have some, perhaps limited access to DHSs and if they did get them, I would see them using them on a 100ton beast like this over a panther.

Good luck getting spare parts in 3044 then. The DCMS couldn't build them for new Atlases off the main production line, so the Nightstalkers aren't going to get much in the way of support. I could see using DHS on this before a Panther, or even stripping them form a Panther, but the Panther didn;t have them to start with:)

The DCMS didn't have double heat sinks in any real quantity till the mid '50's at best, so the chances of seeing a 'mech equipped with them in 3044, especially in the hands of a regiment other than say the 2nd Sword of Light, are just about zero

I'm with the majority here; until the fifties, a unit comprising 'Mechs made from scrounged parts and surplus is not going to be able to field 'double' heat-sinks.

I like both designs, and if you want to make it a later refit of an old Atlas, say the late 3050s-3060s I would buy that. You have to remember units all over the DCMS were stripping ERPPCs out of their Panthers because they were just unusable with standard heatsinks. Even as a one off salvage design you are pushing it. Who did you salvage DHS from between 3044-and 3049? No real border fighting with the FedCom, plus they didn't have DHS equipping the majority of their mechs after the War of '39 either. Maybe a few of the old freezers, but not standard DHS.
