I remember the Atlas well. Not fondly, but well. This fearsome beast was always a frightful opponent, until I learned to stay outside of 9 hexes. After twelve rounds, it couldn't do jack to me. Of course, it might take 20 rounds to blow through that massive armor shell, and if it had help, then the odds changed in its favor.

It was a 'Mech you couldn't ignore. And one of the best drawn of any of the 3025 era.

Calculated Factors:
Total Cost: 11,080,000 C-Bills
Battle Value: 1,898
Cost per BV: 5,837.72
Weapon Value: 3,572 / 3,359 (Ratio = 1.88 / 1.77)
Damage Factors: SRDmg = 43; MRDmg = 26; LRDmg = 11
BattleForce2: MP: 3, Armor/Structure: 8/8
                   Damage PB/M/L: 7/6/3, Overheat: 0
                   Class: MA; Point Value: 19
We begin by replacing the 20 single heat sinks with 16 doubles, saving 4 tons. We add CASE to both torsos and Artemis IV to both missile launchers. Next, we remove the medium lasers and the AC-20. A LB-10X goes in, along with two tons of ammo, along with an ER Large Laser in the center torso.

With three tons left over, we add three medium lasers (RA, LA, H). That massive 19 tons of armor we leave alone.

The old Atlas could do 62 points of damage in an Alpha strike with its forward guns, inside of 9 hexes, overheating by 3. The Royal Atlas can do 65 points of damage in an Alpha strike with its forward guns, inside of 9 hexes, overheating by 1. But where the old model could only do 20 points of damage at 10+, this one can do 38 points.

It's a 'Mech that would make the General proud. I could just cry for joy. Unless I'm fighting it, that is.

Honestly I prefer the Canon Atlas II... But that is a viable alternative.

I'm in the exact opposite boat, I prefer this one. Never liked putting such a crit intensive weapon as the lbx in the arm, particularly when the original had it in the torso.

Nice, but as already noted, it's been done already.

After seeing the Canon Atlas II-H2, I don't think I can ever look at another Atlas and not feel it suffers by comparison.
The H2 model is about all you can ask for in a canon mech IMHO w/o being completely optimized.
