Good morning, all Warriors of Kerensky! Today, I am taking a second look at the Kit Fox. Thanks in part to responses that I have received from JediBear over at Btechunits and from you good people here, I am revising my take on this aging, but still effective, star of Revival. As I did with the Adder, I am increasing the speed to 7/11/0, as well as bumping the armor up to the maximum the chassis can handle. Now, of course, this results in a smaller payload (12.5 tons versus 16 of the original), but I hope that you will find it interesting all the same.

For the Prime, we ditch the autocannon, but retain the Streak SRM-4 and ER Large Laser. Having 5.5 tons left, we go with two ER Medium and a Flamer for anti-personnel work, along with three additional double heat sinks. This Kit Fox is only +4 heat on a running Alpha, and that, trothkin is including the Flamer! Damage is fairly good, especially at 12 hexes and below, and you still have that ten-point punch at long range.

Config A is the one that you will hate. We no longer have the space to carry a Gauss Rifle--instead we have an Ultra AC-5 with 40 shots. But backing up that big gun are three ER Medium Lasers and a Flamer. The original had a max damage of 29 with zero overheat; this one has a max damage of 31 with zero overheat. Even adding the flamer, you only go over by +1 when running!

Similarly, with the B Config, we cannot squeeze that Ultra-10 into the chassis. Instead, once more, we use the Ultra-5 (40 shots), giving us half the damage but greater range. This is backed up by a SRM-6 (15 shots)--standard, not Streak--and an ER Medium Laser. This is one configuration that I do not care for, but hey, you might find it useful.

For the C Config, we start with an ER Large Laser, backed up by an ER Medium and a Flamer. Two machine-guns (100 shots) adds to the anti-infantry capability, while two Anti-Missile Systems (48 shots) protect against enemy missile systems. Finally, this version carries both an Active Probe and an ECM Suite. The weapons, while light, are also tied into a Clan targeting computer for accurracy on the move.

Configuration D is the long-range fire-support model. Dumping the NARC, we instead mount two LRM-10 launchers with Artemis IV (24 shots each), backed up by a flamer and two ER Small Lasers. Combined with the speed of the machine, this model serves well as a harrasser.

The obiligatory ATM model, Configuration E features an ATM-6 with 30 shots, combined with an ER PPC. This model actually has a heavier missile battery than the canon one, plus a solid frightening head-capper for back-up.

As with the Gauss and the Ultra-10, so goes the HAG. We simply cannot fit it on the frame. We begin with a Large Pulse Laser to give us some range--and accurate fire to boot--and a Flamer to rid of that pesky 0.5 tons. But then what? Since Jade Falcon is a major user of the Kit Fox, why not make Config E a showcase for their AP Gauss? Good range, excellent anti-infantry capacity, and crit-seeking from hell in sufficient numbers. Six of the APGR does the job, with 120 shots. Infantry should just go ahead and slit their bellies and be done. Same with any vehicle the Kit Fox E can catch inside of 9 hexes.

Where would we be without a heavy laser config? And the H is it. Featuring a Ultra AC-5 with 40 shots, plus a flamer for AP work, this machine also uses three Heavy Medium Lasers for a brutal assault in close. Now, while they may not be accurate--and this particular unit does not have a targeting computer to off-set the penalty--, the damage more than compensates. Overheat is not too bad--+4 while walking, +5 while running, if you do not use the flamer--but you still have to watch yourself.

Last, but not least, we come to Config W. One of the better configurations, it is used as a training 'Mech by Clan Wolf (and Wolf-in-Exile, and Wolf's Dragoons, and . . . do we have too many wolf fans among us?). This model is the epitomy of simplicity: two large pulse lasers with a flamer for anti-personnel work. And it is done.

It is still hard to find an IS Light that can out range/outgun Clan LPLs and still be fast enough to keep up with 7/11 movement. You have what, LGR, GR, ERPPC, LRM(by 1 hex), and lighter ACs? None of those are real common on Light IS mechs, at least not on any with speed approaching this mech.
