==Overview:==
   The Atlas one of the most feared Battlemechs of all time, but one that
draws in every autocannon, laser and missile so that they often are knocked
out before lighter battlemechs. NAIS studies  showed the Atlas often
distracted enemy forces from lighter mechs giving them a chance to acheive
their objectives. A design team was given a brief to design an Atlas that
could be used in such a manner and be given the best possible chance of
survival.

==Capabilities:==
   It retains the classic Atlas looks but has a PPC cannon mount on both hips
that makes it look like it has 2 AC/20s at least till it opens fire. With 2 ER
PPCs and 4 ER Mediums Lasers giving it moderate firepower. 19 Double heat
sinks means this mech runs cool at long range but hot at close quarters where
the heat enables it's triple-strength myomers to work. The 38 tonnes of
Hardened Armor gives it protection better than some dropships though it does
limit maximum speed.

==Battle History:==
 Able to take almost anything thrown at it this mech found itself in the
thickest action in the Jihad. Blake forces nicknamed it the Zombie as often
the only way take it out quickly was shots to the head and often broke and ran
when having to face it toe to toe. Some were brightly coloured to attract
attention while more subtle forces were able to carry out their missions.

==Variants:==
   There was the early model Z1 which lacked the triple strength myomer which
was produced in limited number early and also occasionally when
triple-strength myomer wasn't available. A command Z3 using a light engine to
enable to fit an improved c3  system and ecm and to be fitted is in
development as a possible trade deal with comstar.

==Deployment==
Davion Assault and Heavy Guards mostly use  80% of the production of this
mech.

interesting but i dont favor the IS variant of the ERPPC, plus they dont give enough of a punch for the true feel of an Atlas.

Two different designs here. I would tend to go with the first one. It is more durable, and gives up a bit in firepower to the H-PPC version, but it also has a range advantage. The H-PPC on a slow mech can get you into trouble on a modern battlefield.
