organisation
i think a long tom battery should have 2-6 long toms, two bulldozers and one ammo truck for each tom. on paper it also should have a firing control/mobile HQ vehicle, but those are even more rare than long toms, so usually there is just some light truck with an improvised HQ.
considering the value of artillery some element of protection certainly would be present
