I designed this hovertank for my Astral Republic faction a while back: a hovertank with a flotation hull. No fluff yet, but the idea is that it's basically an Amphibious Assault Vehicle, riverine or coastal patrol craft, and so forth. It has the mobility of a hovercraft, with the flexibility of a flotation hull for operation over water. The BV and cost aren't quite right because HM Vee doesn't have an option for flotation hulls yet. I decided to post this to see what y'all think of it.

NOTE: I house rule flotation hulls to allow 1 MP of "taxi" movement when landed on water. This makes sense given how things like floatplanes work in reality, and will be reflected in the fluff when I get around to it.

i would suggest to calculate movement like a surface ship, as the props of the hovercraft would push with a rate of 105 in this case the flotation hull should be able to do 3/5. maybe you could reduce that for a body that is not shaped to move in water but a 1 movement would be too slow IMHO. and when a hover is created with flotation in mind the engineers would try to get it to swimm like a boat.

I can't really justify that much, because it would make flotation hulls unbalanced. What you're suggesting would push flotation hulls (which cost no additional weight, space, etc.) into the realm of the Amphibious mods and encroach on the realm of real wet-hulled boats.

The idea of having 1 MP movement for flotation hulls is for a hovercraft or WiGE or whatever to get around at speed using its normal mode of movement. But when needs be, it can land on the water and bubble its way along in a more quiet and controlled manner. Think of it like a jumpship and its "0 MP" drive; the vehicle can use that 1 MP to keep station against a current, nudge up to a dock, more quietly approach an enemy shoreline, and other low-energy or high-precision movement. It's not unbalanced, and it actually makes sense that way in reality.
