==Overview:==
The Scorpene is a utilitarian light tank built in the Astral Republic. It
provides AFV support for airmobile units, and fulfills duties where heavier
units would be wasted, such as base security and convoy protection.
The Scorpene's engine and chassis are based on the ubiquitous Destrier ISV,
and its weapons and compact unmanned turret are also used on other RMF units.
In fact, except for the hull and some drivetrain parts, the Scorpene is almost
entirely built from other units' spares. This high degree of commonality
makes the Scorpene cheap and quick to build, and easy to maintain in the field
since parts are readily available.
Like the Destrier, the Scorpene's engine sits at the right front, with the
driver seated to the left. The commander sits below the turret and uses the
simple "look-shoot" targeting system for observation and gunnery. The Scorpene
lacks the Destrier's infantry compartment, so it is a much smaller vehicle;
indeed, it can almost fit inside a Destrier!
The Scorpene is light enough to be carried by the Cigogne jump transport, and
adds a useful element of AFV support to airmobile operations. It is commonly
second into a landing zone after the lead wave of jump infantry and battle
armor.
