Next up on the hit parade, we have a hospital ship. We haven't seen many of these (none, I believe in canon), but any power should have at least a couple of ships like this. Let me know what you think.

The Taurian Concordat is perhaps the only Periphery power to operate Hospital
Ships. Eight Solace class ships roam across the expanses of the Concordat
during times of peace, assisting others following natural disasters. In time
of war, these ships provided relief and medical care to troops and refugees

Each of the 300,000 ton Solace class has enough beds for 2,700 patients aboard
ship. Twenty-four small craft are embarked to allow patient transfer from the
surface to ship, where 20,000 tons of advanced medical equipment, surgical
wards, and recovery rooms are part of the ship design. In addition to the
on-board facilties, two docking collars hold modified transport DropShips,
each carrying a 250-bed mobile hospital and staff.

The Solace class ships are unique in the fact that they are completely
unarmed. Though their ships crew are in fact members of the Concordat Navy,
over half of the nearly 3,100 medical and support staff are civilian
volunteers, while the remainder are uniformed medical personnel. Despite
belonging to the Navy, not one weapon--not even a pistol--is carried aboard.
These ships are painted a gleaming white, with red crosses emblazoned across
the sizes and bow.

The Navy considers these ships of such importance that they are always
escorted by at least one corvette, despite the disdain the medical personnel
on the Solace class ships feel for a military escort.

During the Reunification War, an exceptionally ugly incident occurred at Amber
in 2590. The Solace class Sanctuary had responded to a natural disaster on
Amber that left tens of thousands homeless.

While the Sanctuary was orbiting Amber, with medical staff and personnel
ground-side assisting in the cleanup, a Davion task group arrived to occupy
the system in the name of the Star League. The Concordat Navy was unable to
defend Amber, and the Davion ships encounted no opposistion.

Surgeon-Captain Franklin Devon order the Corvette TCS Pegasus to withdraw,
though he kept the Sanctuary in orbit. Over half of his staff remained on the
surface, and with nearly a thousand patients receiving medical care aboard
ship--two hundred in surgey--he deemed it improper to weigh anchor and run.

Pegasus withdrew, protesting the order as she did so. Seven hours later the
Davion force reached orbit. Consisting of a Robinson class transport and four
Davion class Destroyer, the commander--Commodore Jasmine Pauling--ordered
Surgeon-Captain Devon to surrender his vessel or be destroyed.

The Concordat officer surrendered his command, but informed the enemy
commander that his personnel were still treating wounded. After an hour of
negotiations, a settlement was reached. Davion Marines would search the
hospital ship, and if they found no weapons, then the Sanctuary would be free
to depart the system, after having treated the wounded and returning them to
the planet.

For three days, the situation seemed as though it would pass without a
tragedy. Alas, this was not to be. Commander Serena Hall, commanding officer
of the Davion class Destroyer Reynard Davion, had recently lost her husband
and two children--killed by insurgents on Maia in the Pleiades cluster.

The more she saw a Taurian ship sitting fifty kilometers off her bow, the more
unhinged her mind became. On the fourth day, Taurian guerillas on the surface
below attacked a shore party from the Reynard Davion. When Commander Hall
reached the bridge, she heard the radio calls for help from the surface.

Ordering her ship cleared for action, she targeted the Sanctuary and fired
into it. Before a shocked Commodore Pauling could relieve Commander Hall from
duty, fire from the Reynard Davion reached the main fuel storage tanks, which
detonated, destroying the ship and all personnel aboard.

Commander Hall was quietly relieved of duty and sent to a hospital in the
rear, where she was treated for psychological issues. The Federated Suns
never issued an apology for the destruction of the unarmed vessel, nor did
they place Commander Hall on trial, though she was shortly thereafter retired
from the AFFS. The death of the Sanctuary to this day remains one of the many
bones of contention between the Concordat and the Suns.

Below are listed all known vessels of the Solace class.
