Post subject: | TCS Resolution (Destroyer) |
Now we get back to the meat and potatoes--WarShips. The Resolution is an older design, mostly retired from service by the time of the Reunification War. Pulled from mothballs, it served in all theatres of the combat. Take a look! Code: AeroTech 2 Vessel Technical Readout VALIDATED Class/Model/Name: Resolution [Destroyer] Tech: Inner Sphere / 2750 Vessel Type: WarShip Rules: Level 2, Standard design Rules Set: AeroTech2 Mass: 430,000 tons K-F Drive System: (Unknown) Length: 558 meters Sail Diameter: 998 meters Power Plant: Standard Safe Thrust: 4 Maximum Thrust: 6 Armor Type: Standard Armament: 8 White Shark 8 Barracuda 8 NAC/25 8 NL55 8 Medium NPPC ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== The Resolution class Destroyer was considered by some within the TCN as the premier mid-weight combatent of the Taurian Concordat Navy for over a century and a half. The third WarShip of the Navy--following the Winchester class Cruiser and the Wildcat class Destroyer--the Resolution built upon the design philosophy of the Wildcat and made it her own. Despite being small for its classification compared to Inner Sphere designs, the Resolution was able to equal or exceed most of them in firepower, armor protection, and thrust. Only with the advent of the new Formidable class in 2484 was there any serious talk about sending the Resolutions into mothballs. Still, it would be 2527 before the final Resolution class on active duty--TCS Undaunted (SDD-016)--was retired. Recalled for duty a decade before the Reunification War took the Periphery by storm, Resolution class vessels served with distinction and valor. Considered more expendable than the younger, powerful Formidable and Thunderer class, Resolution class ships took the fight into the teeth of the Star League at battles such as Robsart, Diefenbaker, and Montour. That last two surviving Resolution class Destroyers--TCS Reprisal (SDD-007) and TCS Revenge (SDD-010)--were lost on September 8, 2587 at the Battle of Montour. ==Capabilities:== Considered by many to be the gold standard of Taurian Naval design for medium-weight ships, the Resolutions managed to achieve a maximum thrust of 3-g's on a 430,000 ton frame. Five hundred and fourteen tons of standard armor provided protection that often exceeded that of many Inner Sphere Cruisers, let alone other Destroyers. Following Taurian doctrine, no docking collars were mounted, and only a light complement of support craft--8 aerospace fighters and 2 small craft--embarked. Fifty zero-g Marines provided ship-board security and conducted boarding actions. The one hundred and ninty-seven officers and crew, fifty marines, and twenty-three passengers were given spacious quarters and living conditions, while two 95-meter grav decks ensured their health and well-being. Sufficient supplies, food, and water, as well as life support was provided for a patrol duration of up to 180 days. Seventy-two hundred tons of fuel bunkerage also gave the Resolution class 180 days of thrust at 1-g--on paper at least. In practice, the aerospace fighters and small craft shared that fuel tankage, reducing the amount of time the Resolution could continually thrust. 10,750 tons of spare parts was carried for on-board repairs, while an additional 14,466 tons was available as open cargo volume. Weaponry for the Resolution class was typically Taurian--a mixture of Naval Autocannons, Naval Missiles, and energy mounts in multiple bays. This philosophy of design arose to prevent a single lucky hit from disabling all of the weapons in one or more firing arcs. By dividing the weapons up, the ability to penetrate enemy armor might be slightly reduced, but if one weapon is lost, the others can still fire. By varying the type of weapons, a Concordat ship commander had a variety of tools at his disposal. If he needed a precision weapon, he had missiles. Worried about ammo shortages--Naval Lasers and Naval PPCs. Need a bigger hammer? Naval autocannon. The Resolution class was the first ship where this design doctrine came fully into being. Primary armament consisted of eight Jankowski Mark III Class 25 Naval Autocannons, each with a magazine of 50 rounds. Eight High Energy Systems Pulsar class Medium Naval PPCs backed up these guns, and provided extended fire range. Another eight Martin-Gordan Sunburn Class 55 Naval Lasers were mounted as well, for additional extreme range firepower. All of these weapons were mounted in single bays, one to each of the eight firing arcs available. For anti-fighter defense, sixteen Norman/Raytheon capital missile launchers were mounted. Eight Barracuda launchers and eight White Shark launchers, each with 30 missiles. Mounted in seperate bays, the two missile launchers were given different tasks. The Barracudas were exceptionally accurate. However, the White Sharks were half-again as destructive, and much more likely to penetrate enemy armor. Both were devastating against enemy aerospace assets. ==Battle History:== The Battle of Robsart has often been described as an orgy of violence, a duel with submachine-guns at three paces. At Robsart, the Concordat Navy had its heart torn out, though it gave as good as it got. Eleven Resolution class Destoyers--Renown, Relentless, Repulse, Onslaught, Independence, Implacable, Indomitable, Valiant, Vindictive, Venerable, and Victorious--were part of the Concordat's Grand Fleet that met the Star League Navy in orbit. While the entire battle lasted for four days, not all ships were involved for the entire duration. The destroyers listed above belonged to the Concordat's 4th and 7th Destroyer Squadrons, and entered the fray on day 3. Arriving in system at a pirate point, Commodore William Ayres spotted a Monsoon class Battleship attempting to flank the Taurian forces. The Hegemony ship was escorted by six Lola I class Destroyers and eight Baron class Destroyers. Commodore Ayres took both squadrons into pursuit. Despite taking heavy damage from the Monsoon, the ships closed the range, and began exchanging fire with the enemy escorts. Ayres, aboard the Independence, engaged the Monsoon himself, but shortly thereafter found himself in serious trouble. While his fellow destroyers were fighting--and beating--the enemy escorts, he had lost over half of his armor, and taken severe internal damage. His bold attempt to distact the Monsoon paid off, however, when a hailstorm of missiles, energy beams, and autocannon shells slammed into the Monsoon from behind. TCS Samantha Calderon, the Fleet Flagship, had been ordered to withdraw from the battle. Already, Admiral Gerald Hanson knew the victory--if any--here would be pyrrhic in nature. The Saucy Sam had been making her way to a jump point when she noticed the fight between Ayres and the Monsoon. Moving to intercept, she had never even been detected by the two ships locked in a death grip. With a single volley, the Calderon completed the destruction of the Monsoon, then pressed on for the jump point. Ayres, turned back to the rest of the fight, where the survivors of his two squadrons routed the remaining enemy escort ships. Seven Resolutions remained intact after this engagement--Ayres had lost Repulse, Implacable, Valiant, and Venerable. His own Independence was badly damaged as well. The following day, Star League reinforcement arrived. Ayres threw his ships into the fight once more. Despite their damage, they accounted for another nine enemy vessels before the last ship--TCS Onslaught--exploded beneath the guns of the Congress class Shannon. When tallies of the battle were finally assembled, it was found that between them, the eleven Resolutions of the 4th and 7th Squadrons destroyed ninteen enemy vessels ranging in size from Vincent class Corvettes to an Aegis class Cruiser. ==Variants:== The above listed ship is the Block II model, introduced with SDD-013 Ranger in 2420. The original Block I model--all of which were refitted to the Block II standard--was a much more limited vessel. Armament consists of 16 Jankowski Mark I Class 10 Naval Autocannon, in eight two gun bays, even spaced across the ship. Each bay had a magazine of 100 rounds drawn upon by both guns. Eight Norman/Raytheon Barracuda class capital missile launchers (30 missiles each) provided the only extreme range and anti-fighter armament. Thirty-two Martin-Gordan Flare Class 35 Naval Lasers--in eight bays of four each--rounded out the guns of the ship. 2,224 heat sinks provided enough dissipation to fire all weapons simultaneously, while the ship carried 18,061 tons of cargo. The Block I required a larger crew than the later Block II, and yet had less firepower. By 2450, no Block I models remained in service. ==Notable Vessels & Crews:== Below is listed all known ships of the Resolution class. The first twelve ships were of the original Block I class--all of which were refitted to the Block II standard by 2450. These ships back-stopped the lighter Wildcats on patrol missions on the border, and escorted Winchester class Cruisers to show the Flag. They kept transports safe on runs to drop their troops on worlds occupied by the enemy, and they rescued spacers in distress. When the Undaunted was mothballed in 2527, it was the end of an era. Resurrected for service in 2561, the Resolutions returned to duty ready and able to serve. As older ships, without the new armor and more modern amenities, Resolutions were committed to fights where the Admirality could not afford to lose Formidable and Thunderer class ships. By the spring of 2587, all of the ships of this class had been lost in action, trying to hold back the tide. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Class/Model/Name: Resolution [Destroyer] Mass: 430,000 tons Equipment: Mass Power Plant, Drive & Control: 103,200.00 Thrust: Safe Thrust: 4 Maximum Thrust: 6 Kearny-Fuchida Hyperdrive: Compact (Integrity = 10) 194,575.00 Jump Sail (Detachable): (Integrity = 4) 52.00 Structural Integrity: 60 25,800.00 Total Heat Sinks: 2,640 Single 2,141.00 Fuel & Fuel Pumps: 7,344.00 Bridge, Controls, Radar, Computer & Attitude Thrusters: 1,075.00 Fire Control Computers: .00 Food & Water: (180 days supply) 243.00 Armor Type: Standard (242 total armor pts) 514.00 Capital Scale Armor Pts Location: L / R Fore: 41 Fore-Left/Right: 41/41 Aft-Left/Right: 41/41 Aft: 37 Cargo: Bay 1: Fighters (4) with 2 doors 600.00 Small Craft (1) with 1 door 200.00 Bay 2: Fighters (4) with 2 doors 600.00 Small Craft (1) with 1 door 200.00 Bay 3: Cargo (1) with 2 doors 14,466.00 Grav Decks #1 - 2: (95-meter diameter) 100.00 Escape Pods: 46 (7 tons each) 322.00 Crew and Passengers: 29 Officers (29 minimum) 290.00 102 Crew (102 minimum) 714.00 40 Gunners (40 minimum) 280.00 7 1st Class Passengers 70.00 16 2nd Class Passengers 112.00 50 Marines 250.00 26 Bay Personnel .00 Weapons and Equipment Loc SRV MRV LRV ERV Heat Mass ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1 White Shark(30 msls) Nose 3 3 3 3 15 1,320.00 1 Barracuda(30 msls) Nose 2 2 2 2 10 990.00 1 NAC/25(50 rounds) Nose 25 25 25 -- 85 3,030.00 1 NL55 Nose 6 6 6 6 85 1,100.00 1 Medium NPPC Nose 9 9 9 9 135 1,800.00 1 White Shark(30 msls) FL/R 3 3 3 3 30 2,640.00 1 Barracuda(30 msls) FL/R 2 2 2 2 20 1,980.00 1 NAC/25(50 rounds) FL/R 25 25 25 -- 170 6,060.00 1 NL55 FL/R 6 6 6 6 170 2,200.00 1 Medium NPPC FL/R 9 9 9 9 270 3,600.00 1 White Shark(30 msls) L/RBS 3 3 3 3 30 2,640.00 1 Barracuda(30 msls) L/RBS 2 2 2 2 20 1,980.00 1 NAC/25(50 rounds) L/RBS 25 25 25 -- 170 6,060.00 1 NL55 L/RBS 6 6 6 6 170 2,200.00 1 Medium NPPC L/RBS 9 9 9 9 270 3,600.00 1 White Shark(30 msls) AL/R 3 3 3 3 30 2,640.00 1 Barracuda(30 msls) AL/R 2 2 2 2 20 1,980.00 1 NAC/25(50 rounds) AL/R 25 25 25 -- 170 6,060.00 1 NL55 AL/R 6 6 6 6 170 2,200.00 1 Medium NPPC AL/R 9 9 9 9 270 3,600.00 1 White Shark(30 msls) Aft 3 3 3 3 15 1,320.00 1 Barracuda(30 msls) Aft 2 2 2 2 10 990.00 1 NAC/25(50 rounds) Aft 25 25 25 -- 85 3,030.00 1 NL55 Aft 6 6 6 6 85 1,100.00 1 Medium NPPC Aft 9 9 9 9 135 1,800.00 1 Lot Spare Parts (2.50%) 10,750.00 1 Bay Personnel Quarters 182.00 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ TOTALS: Heat: 2,640 430,000.00 Tons Left: .00 Calculated Factors: Total Cost: 1,921,005,600 C-Bills Battle Value: 107,028 Cost per BV: 17,948.63 Weapon Value: 32,602 (Ratio = .30) Damage Factors: SRV = 3,277; MRV = 3,277; LRV = 2,602; ERV = 1,049 Maintenance: Maintenance Point Value (MPV) = 316,452 (56,454 Structure, 136,158 Life Support, 123,840 Weapons) Support Points (SP) = 196,721 (62% of MPV) BattleForce2: Not applicable |
