The final ship of the Taurian Concordat, the Broadsword was originally designed to replace the ancient Winchester in service. These ships served from the first major battle of the War (Case Amber) to the last desperate days of fighting in Flannagan's Nebula.

==Overview:==
Designed to replace the venerable Winchester and Winchester II vessels in
Taurian service, the Broadsword was a modern, capable design in the mold of
the Calderon class Battleship.
Laid down in 2568, the first Broadsword entered service in 2573. TCS
Broadsword proved itself as a worth successor in Case Amber, impressing
officers and crew throughout the Concordat Navy during that action.
Throughout the Reunification War, Broadsword class vessels were found leading
Task Groups and Task Forces. Outfitted as Flagships, these ships led from the
front. However, just as with the even larger and more powerful Calderon
class, Concordat shipyards just could not produce enough of these vessels, and
their rates of production was low.
Despite being a fine ship, the Broadsword's career ended when the Concordat
surrendered on September 22, 2596.
==Capabilities:==
Using an 810,000 ton frame, the Broadsword class managed to match the thrust
profile of the Winchester class--a ship lighter by 70,000 tons. Nearly 1,300
tons of Improved Ferro-aluminum armor provided protection that rivaled many
Inner Sphere battleships.
With four docking collars, sixteen aerospace fighters, and four small craft,
the Broadsword was amply supplied with support craft. One hundred and fifty
marines rounded out its multi-force capability. All Broadsword class vessels
were outfitted with a 3,000 ton Flag Bridge, to which twelve officers and
eighteen other ranks were attached.
Another 31 passengers could be carried, in addition to the crew of three
hundred and twenty-seven. Two 105-meter diameter grav decks allowed crew,
passengers, and marines to remain in tip-top health.
Sixteen Jankowski Mark IV Class 30 Naval Autocannons provided the main punch
of the design, mounted in two gun sections in each firing arc. Each gun was
provided with a 50-round magazine. Sixteen High Energy Systems Nova class
Heavy Naval PPCs provided additional firepower, as did twelve Martin-Gordan
Sunburn Class 55 Naval Lasers. The Nova PPCs were mounted adjacent to the
Mark IVs, but the twelve Sunburns were mounted in twin mounts in the
fore-quarters, broadsides, and aft-quarters firing arcs.
Anti-fighter defense were provided by 8 Norman/Raytheon Barracuda class
capital missile launchers (30 missile each), 8 Norman/Raytheon White Shark
class capital missile launchers (30 missiles each), and 8 Norman/Raytheon
Killer Whale class capital missile launchers (35 missiles, of which 5 were
nuclear, each).

==Deployment==
Reaching the Fleet just before the outbreak of the War, there were never
enough Broadsword class ships for all the required missions--especially after
the Battle of Robsart. By 2587, all surviving ships of this class had been
pulled back to Flanagan's Nebula to assist in the defense of Gateway Point.
The five year long campaign of attrition that followed caused the destruction
of most of these ships, but at least two (TCS Scimitar and TCS Rapier)
survived the fighting. Both were scuttled by their own crews to avoid seizure
by the victorious Star League.
An additional eight incomplete ships of this class were destroyed still in
their building slips as well.
