==Overview:==
The Laughing Trickster class Destroyer/Transport was first introduced by Clan
Coyote in 2996. This small ship was intended to become the standard Cluster
transport for the front-line forces of the Clan. Not intended for serious
combat, the ship is nonetheless well-armored and armed, posing a serious
threat to anything smaller than itself.
The ship is not very maneuverable--indeed, with a maximum thrust of 2.5-g's,
many other Clan vessels will quickly outpace it. However, 430 tons of
Lamellar Ferro-carbide provide armor protection of exceptional quality for its
size. And while the armament is limited to sixteen guns (8 Heavy Naval PPC
and 8 AR-10 capital missile launchers), these weapons can cover every approach
to the ship. Furthermore, all sixteen weapons can be fired
simultaneously--something few other WarShips (Clan or otherwise) can claim.
Twenty Omni-fighters provide the main striking arm of the Laughing Trickster
if the bidding allows it to enter combat. This binary is embarked in one
large hanger bay that can launch or recover up to eight fighters at once.
Five small craft are also embarked, but in seperate hanger away from the
combat aero-fighters.
A full-strength Trinary of Elementals have been selected to serve as Marines
aboard ship. These Elementals can also be used to reinforce the Cluster
carried by the Laughing Trickster, as can the aero-fighter binary. But that
decision is made by the Star Colonel commanding the Cluster.
Though the ship itself is commanded by a Star Captain, it is the Cluster's
Star Colonel who commands all of the forces attached to each Trickster class
ship and assumes overall command of the vessel as well. A small flag bridge
has been provided to give the Star Colonel and his staff space to plan
operations and conduct bidding.
Enough supplies and fuel are provided to allow deployments of up to one year
before reprovisioning is required. Moreover, a full 5% of the ship's volume
is dedicated to spare parts storage, allowed the Techs and Engineers assigned
to the ships crew to keep all systems functioning. A further 24,000 tons of
open cargo volume gives additional space for munitions, fuel, and
supplies--giving the ship a grand total of 56,940 tons of consumables, or
about 15.8% of the ship's total mass.
The main feature of the ship however are the six docking collars, which allow
a full-strength front-line Cluster to use the ship as a transport. In order
to swiftly move this Cluster where it is needed, both an HPG and a
lithium-fusion battery system have been included in the hull.
Though successful in its design mission, many senior members of Clan Coyote
considered the design to wasteful of resources, and construction halted after
only six ships had been built. These six are assigned to Alpha Galaxy, and
the Clan Command Cluster.
