So what are we looking at here? Small, fast pulse platform to intercept fighter groups before they reach the main fleet?

The Defiant is an excellent anti-fighter and anti-dropship unit. Given its speed, I think it would also generally perform well against similarly sized Warships. Anything it can't outrun probably wouldn't want to catch it anyway
