==Overview:==
During Task Force Serpent, then sho-sa (major) Michael Ryan, and
his DEST commandoes used the Kage battlesuit during boarding
actions, but found that it was woefully under equipped to deal
with such a situation. 

While the jump jets, and the wing assembly, were a considerable
advantage in most situations, the confined spaces on board a
spaceship turned them into a hindrance, as neither could be used
effectively.

Design work on what would, eventually, become the Mariner started
as soon as Ryan, and his sole surviving subordinate, returned from
the Clan homeworlds, but it would not be until 3070 that the
various technical issues were finally solved, and the battle armor
put into full scale production.

==Capabilities:==
Several things make the Mariner stand out from it's
contemporaries, probably the single biggest difference being that
unlike most medium suits, it doesn't mount any jump jets, instead
having more powerfull myomer assemblies to enable the suit to
almost match the jump capable suits for ground speed, but lacking
the tactical flexibility, at least in ground actions, of the jump
jets.

Another difference is that the suit is somewhat limited in it's
choice of weaponry by it's enviroment, having two modular weapon
mounts, one in the torso, and one slung underneath the left arm, a
pair of grenade launchers being the most common choice, followed
by machine guns, both of which are weapons that can be used with
relative safety onboard even lightly armored jump ships.

As for the manipulator choices, the left one was a battle vibro
claw, both for deadly close combat efficiency, both against
armored, and un armored infantry, while the right one was a
armored glove, giving the operator the maximum dexterety possible,
even at the expense of some protection. Usually a blazer rifle is
carried in this arm, but it can vary depending on user's
preference.

As a final gesture, a extended life support was included, as this
was considered a must for a shipboard ba.

==Variants:==
So far the only variant extant replaces the grenade launchers with
machine guns. 

Currently the DCA is undecided on exactly how to mix the two types
together.

==Deployment==
Although the Mariner has not seen actual combat yet, combat
simulations are promising, and both Luthien Armor Works, Hachiman
Taro, and New Samarkhand Metals are working on full scale
production of the suit to equip the DCA's battle armored marines.

Also the suit is being offered to the Star League, for the same
role, although their response to the design has been more limited
in scale due to it's un proven nature.
