You know: Antietam.

Had an urge to play there, so I fired up HMM and took two or three stabs at it. :-]

Once I got around to rotating it 20 degrees, so the river more or less matched up with the hexrows, and jumping through some amazing hoops to get a clue on scale, I wound up with this.

Burnside Bridge IIc.jpg
The south edges aren't really to scale (I was getting loopy), and the second road down running NE on the NE map is at the completely wrong angle, I blew off all the fences, and I spent most of my time deciding which way to round a hex (20' is 6m for all practical purposes), but I know have something to play on . . .

I can put up the .HMX files, if'n y'all want . . .

Interesting, so we will see mechs marching to a bridge to cross a creek that is fordable...should prove interesting to play on.

Even if you don't have tanks or infantry with you right now in need of the bridge, sooner or later, your supple trucks will . . .

The more things change . . . ;-)

Nice map but what is the add-on graphic. Looks like a bend in the road. Mine posting the add-on or letting us know where to get it?

Since it was Goose that asked for a "HMMap" forum to be created, it's only fair his thread be the first moved to it. :toast:

I thought I would chime in and say that I threw down with Goose and several others on the map yesterday. Good fight (for us anyhow...), but I wanted to say hats off to Goose for creating the map and Rick for creating the program! :toast:

So anyway: What you want to do is grab - er: copy it - the "Road (1-3).gif" from the "Map\Palettes\Basic\Paths" subdirectory, then place it in "Map\Add-Ons" . . .

So anyways: I still feel the need to revise it . . . :-]

O_o I just tried it, and it works; Can't say as I know what's wrong, or even why it'd "red X"/ "broken image" instead of some other error. :dunno:

Yes, Sir: That is indeed the Burnside Bridge, site of the third movement of the Battle of Antietam, of the US's ##$@#$ Civil War. :frown:

The data can be had (more or less) here, in the gift shop, IIRC. The apps on the CD-ROM are only 16-bit, so you might have issues with modern Windows boxes, but the print maps still work. ;-)

Links that let the field speak for itself: You can also ask Google Earth about it, but I'm told goobs more trees have sprung up between then and now . . .

Hoops you probaly have to jump through to get to the data on said CD-ROM: 30-day trials are cool, but the ERDAS app is over 800 meg to d/l, and, while does one or two neat things well (get a buildings height from it's shadow?), most of it is inscrutable, with pants for a help-functions. Makes you appreciate Adobe products, I tell you . . . :-]
