Mabybe it's the same problem I had with new skins for the VideoLAN Player (VLC).
When you copy files to the program files directory (e.g. C:\Program Files) Windows 7 prevents that a user modify a folder in this path directly. Therefore Windows 7 uses a functionalty called "Virtual Store"... this is a personal virtual folder in the user's profile. But some programs do not scan this virtual folder.

This sounds like you're a victim of Win7 virtualization, and probably are not running as an Administrator. If you don't run as an Admin, then (lost but not all of the time) you cannot save files to the Aero folder. So, Win7 does "virtualization", and saves the files to a hidden folder somewhere else that you /do/ have rights to save to. It looks to you like it's saving properly (the custom weapons /you/ made), and runs fine.

What I believe is happening is that you placed the new files in your Aero folder, but Win7's virtualization "knows" you're using the ones in another location, and uses them instead.

I'd do a complete search (it probably won't be indexed) for the Aero DATA files, and either delete them from the virtual location, or replace them with the new ones. I'd then make sure you're running as an Admin, etc. per my page at http://www.heavymetalpro.com/vista.htm.

Yahoo...fixed.

I noticed that the Clan custom weapons did in fact work (I hadn't checked, been working in IS only lately). But the IS did not (I had been creating custom IS weapons). So I went into HMAero, deleted the IS custom weapons folder, brought in the desired custom weapon files. This time when I tried to transfer it in, a window did pop up saying Administrator permission was needed, I clicked continue (the continue button had the admin shield on it). And it worked this time.

Thanks!

You would have to enter Clan versions of the weapons into the Inner Sphere custom weapons.

Custom Weapons for HMBA, a lot of these will not work 100%, jump boosters should not take any slots and MP will not be changed but I use them just to get the weights correct, and you need to remember to take into account the MP penalties when you use the DWP versions.

Okay, guys, someone on the (C)BT forums mentioned they were unable to set up the custom weapons files, not knowing (or caring) exactly where to put them and all. I'd like to make up a little automatic install program that would put them in the correct place.

I just need to know what files are the very best to include, for most people to have the TO/TW weapons they want. I think those that created them, and use them, are best able to decide this. Can someone send me, or point me to, the "best" files to use? I'd like to include them for all the programs, if possible.

I feel disqualified to judge which file(s) to use, but I wonder if this "app" won't grow ( ;-) ) with stuff like:
  • Handle the Vee and Aero
  • Backup (and rename) the existing file
  • let you pick where the files are saving to/ restoring from

I use Leon Shirow's files myself and they have worked just fine for me. The only issue is that they are so close to the maximum number of custom weapons allowed that it is hard to use ACTUAL custom equipment. But I have never had a problem entering in a design with them. :)

I downloaded them from this thread. I added them to my webpage as well so people can use them. They are listed under each of your programs below.

I agree with Med. though I would personnally like to see the MML's have the ammo listed sep, so rather than MML LRM, MML SRM, so I could add the launcher & the ammo as needed, that's the only difference.

I remember someone posting designs that had MML's done that way, what is the best way to do it :-?

I have been entering some of the equipment from Wars of Reaving, I could probably finish that tonight.

For the HMVee files, i added MG array linked MGs.
For HMLite, i added the "fixed" version of the AP Gauss (TM errata 2.1)

Thanks Leon for the updated HMAero file :D

I did not think there were enough slots available to add all the MG array linked MG's, could you post a design that has them all.

What changes need to be made to the AP Gauss :undecided:

Plasma Cannon could be added to HMLite.

I've gone ahead and produced a Setup program based on the files Leon just posted and sent to me. I can make updates available, if need be, should we find errors or can add new weapons.

The AP Gauss in the new errata shows 25kg per shot on Protos, so that gives you 40 shots per ton.
I forgot about the plasma Cannon being legal now.....(BTW, 100kg per shot...10 shots per ton).

Weapons only take up one slot on Vees, so a 2, 3, or 4-MG Array is one slot (see weapons and equipment lists in TM & TO)

HMLite custom weapons are entered shots per ton, not weight per shot, so how I had it entered should be correct.

 yup, just realized that, shows how long i've messed with the custom weapons editor in HMLite.

BTW, Leon, did you add the new weapons to HMBA, in case you didn't i have the file

Okay, I THINK I have fixed the problem. It occurred when you did not have a program installed, and even though the files did not then need to be copied, the path they would be copied to did not exist. Anyhow, please download Rev 2 of the same file, at the same web site:

http://www.heavymetalpro.com/DataFiles. ... tomWeapons

Please let me know if there are any problems, and those who had problems, please let me know if all is okay now.

I'll post this on (C)BT as well, but right now I can't get to the site.

Works now. Uber-danke :toast:

However, I saw a fair bit of talk in this thread about "maximum allowed slots" for custom weapons. I tried adding some of my non-canon cannons, and whenever I create more than 1 new weapon it just ignores everything I entered apart from the last one (which replaced T3). Given I have at least a dozen new weapons in that thread alone, this is rather vexing.

Ah, well. I guess I can delete some of the TacOps things I'm never going to use, to make room.

Oy.

I believe HMP6 will have more slots then HMP currently does.

I'd tell you to go back up the "current" custom weapons file, start a new one, and learn to switch between the two, but seein' as this all started with "I don't get files", I might hold off, or start another thread, if asked. ;-)

Thank you, I have all the same weapons entered as you have done and a few others (I did DWP versions of some weapons) However I seem to have ammo weights wrong

Where did you find the RPG ranges for ER Pulse Lasers :-?

Already did that :)

I just wanted to test the patch EXE to help out, otherwise I would've already tossed in the downloaded versions from PRI.

What might be a strange question coming from a long time user of the HM progs, I do make back-ups of my custom weapom files but I keep them on a sep H/D, when you say switch between then do you mean you keep then in the (various) HM prog folders & give then a different name ?, or you copy & paste from a seperate back up drive ?,

Dave.

I just renamed the TW/TacOps one, and then created a new custom weapons file from scratch.

Back in the Day, during this stretch of time Rick only thought he'd upped the limit past 41, I was running around with three files.

The file that was "live" was using the file name HM* was expecting, and the other two would have some extra extension added on, like ".002" or something, while sitting in the same subdirectory.

It was annoying to have to save a design, half done, so I could quite the program, rename the "live" file to .001 and then delete the extra extension of the file I thought had the weapons I was thinking of …

Goose,

Interesting again I would ask how did you switch between them ?, did you have to close HMPro ?.

The programs must be closed and restarted to read the weapons again. Something I want to do in Pro6 is provide for using multiple custom weapons files. And things like this is one reason it's taking longer than expected.

Weapons for HMBA are included in the last file I posted. If you send me your files I will check to see if I missed any weapons.
Ok, will do...
Thank you, I have all the same weapons entered as you have done and a few others (I did DWP versions of some weapons) However I seem to have ammo weights wrong

Where did you find the RPG ranges for ER Pulse Lasers :-?
Well, the ER Small Pulse has the same range as the standard Small Pulse......the ER Med. Pulse i slightly fudged the rpg ranges based on the ER Med. Laser.....so, no, the ER Med. Pulse rpg ranges aren't official, i just added it for completeness

Thank you Rick and LeonShirow, this is most excellent!

I posted this over at bg.battletech.com in the forums, and I thought I'd post over here as well:

It may be my lack of familiarity with TacOps equipment creating some confusion here, but in these files, Artillery Cannons are showing up under Clan Tech Base, and they are not present under the Inner Sphere Tech Base...am I missing something?

On a side note, this is the first time I've posted here in a long time...feels good to be lurking around here again!

Edit: Thanks to Snake-eyes, who pointed out the fact that they were already present under L3 rules in HMP.

Before I run this one, I have a question, will this over write my current custom weapon file or not for all of the programs?

You choose, for all of the programs that have custom weapons files (Pro, Vee, Lite, BA and Aero) whether to install the files or not. If you install them, then any existing custom weapons files will be renamed with .bak after them, and if .bak exists, then .bk1, etc. You can only use one custom weapons file for each tech base, though, so to get your other weapons back, you'll need to move or rename files.

Hope this helps.

I noticed an error in the custom files for this, the MML3(SRM) had ranges for the LRM version. I forget for sure if it was the MML3 but I'm fairly certain that was the one with the range error.

Thank you, fixed. Should have corrected files this week.

Please email me the files when they're done, so I can make a new setup program.

Sorry about the delay, I ended up going away. I think I have all the HMBA ammo weights correct now though I am not sure about the Heavy Mortar DWP, TechManual has the weight as 4kg (40) but I think it should be 4kg (20) :undecided: jymset has already asked about this on the BattleTech forums, I will see if I can get it bumped.

Let's wait until it's confirmed, and then I'll issue new installs.

Hi, Sorry to ask, has any one got the BA Heavy Flamer (both IS & Clan) with & w/o DWM / MWW ?.

as I cannot get my head around these at present to add them as custom weapons to HMBA, senior moment  :D ,

I want to do the Grenadier suit configuration, that was mentioned over on CBT Fan Articles which was proposed but not added to RS3145 NTNU ( Heavy Flamer mounted with a body mounted Mortar).

Thanks in advance if any one can help me out.

Dave.

Sorry about the necromancy, but do HMAero custom weapons files have the Mass Driver Cannon data in them?
