I'm running with Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit version (released not beta version).

I'm successfully running HMmap, and HMPlus (Pro, Light, Vee).
I've only spent much time in Pro and Map, but I've fired up Light and Vee, all seem to be working perfectly.

I did not follow any of the special instructions for installing with Vista that are on the website (I didn't see them until after I installed HMP). The program installed with all defaults w/o issue, and is working great.

Just FYI.

What did you have the UAP (or whatever it's called) set to?

Glad you are having luck with it, I am still unable to get HMLite to work, and now I can not even change the toolbars to remove or add any buttons.

Hey Rick the link you sent me download a 437kb file only, which doesn't open anything but MSDOS style window in XP and won't even run in Win7.

Beyond the above issues the programs work well, other then as stated above.

Meanwhile I can get a WINME game to work, odd really but I guess I will figure it out. And yes I am running as admin on my own computer or so all the settings say I am the Admin for the computer.

Ideas thoughts or a protocol droid that understands boche and can program water vaporators....time to go take my blue milk and clean power converts.

I installed the OS with all defaults. I assume the one user created during the installation is an administrator.

Same thing I did. So I am under the impression that I am the administrator for the computer, yet I am not able to get HMLite to run or to get any of the toolbars in the HM programs to allow to add or remove buttons, while that is odd, the other HM programs run without an issue. All but HM Lite.

Karagin, What version (exactly) of Win 7 are you running? 32 or 64 bit, Ultimate, Home, etc.
Are you running the release version or a Beta?

64 bit release version Home Premium with upgrade to Ultimate.

Using the standard CDs of my HM programs all but LITE installed, while I am not able to change the toolbars in the programs, which is not a big deal with the larger monitor, they all work. LITE will not install at all. I am still working on figuring out what could be the reason. I am considering trying to install it via going into the CD, finding the setup APP and running it that way and see what happens. But I do believe Rick is correct and I do need to get newer versions of the base programs since CDs do die over time.

I installed from the digital downloads (I purchased online, I'm impatient :) ). I wonder if that makes any difference vs. the CD install?

The CD and download versions should be the same.

If the toolbar customization doesn't work, then the ListEX.ocx control isn't working right or properly registered. You can locate it in the Windows\System32 folder, and browse there using a DOS window and register it:

regsvr32 ListEX.ocx

A message should tell you it's properly registered.

I've installed it on Windows 7 Professional 64 and it seemed fine except the bars for armor distribution graph in the lower right hand corner extended off the form and were wider than I'm used to. Also the numbers on the graph were inflated in value. The % of maximum armor value was in 1000's.

If I run as administrator, all of that goes away. :D

I ran it under Vista Ultimate 64 with no problems. I suspect it's a permissions problem with the HeavyMetal folder.

Just performed a clean install of Win7 Pro myself, and HMPro installed and runs without issue.

Of course, the first thing I did after installing 7 was to disable that piece of crap User Account Control business, so I won't have said "administrator" issues if there are any.

Still, HMP seems to be running smoothly under 7.

I haven't had issues with the program running, beyond the tool bar preference changing bit, but that is minor and I got HMLITE to work with Rick's help so I am happy again.

Not looking good anymore. Now HM programs launch, and show up in the task bar, but are invisible.
The "Tips" window shows up, and "next" will display a new tip, but the main program window is like gone.
Anyone else having this problem?

I haven't run any of the HM programs for a few weeks, there have been a few Win 7 security updates since then, but no other changes to the system.

Win 7 Ultimate, x64, running as administrator, compatibility mode options (XP SP2) has no effect, same symptom. :(

Update: If i right click on the Aero bar icon of the program then click on maximize, the program appears (maximized of course). I can't get it to appear otherwise (also tried move hoping the window was just "off screen" somewhere, but couldn't get it to show up). I only have one display.

Minor varitions of that have been cropping up since we left Win9x: You're opening up off screen.

The cure, IIRC, was going to be one of: Get Sizer (http://www.brianapps.net/sizer.html); Use the Windows "Move" command (you right-click on the app listing in the taskbar, then sturgle to make it do something useful); Rick knows a string in an .ini file you need to zero out, so both Windows and HMx knows where to place it's upper right corner.

Or something like that . . . :dunno:

Found this out, if turn off READ ONLY tab in the properties, things tend to work better, went to post a mech last week, put up the file text, then go to attach the file, in the folder in PRO that I keep the mechs I find that my mech is not there, but it is showing up in the program. So I save it to a different folder, it shows up. A little testing and I figure out that the Read Only deal is screwing things up. Remove, tell computer it is okay and things are better.

Ok solved it. With the window maximized I was able to drag the title bar, which allowed the program window to be resized manually to something usable. Weird. :o

The easiest way is to just delete the hvypro.ini file, and run the program with the defaults. Or you can edit the INI:

Mode_1_X=0
Mode_1_Y=0

Set X and Y = 0 for all Modes (1, 2 & 3).

I have a new HP laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit version. I am having problems.

The only two programs that installed cleanly from CD were HMBA and HMMap. Autoruns ran fine and everything.

HM Plus took several tries, including a few lockups of Windows Explorer and restarts, to get the CD to read properly. Seems to be working OK now that I finally have it installed.

I can't install HMAero from CD. Autorun locks up the computer, Windows Explorer crashes when it tries to read the CD manually. Any chance I could get the digital download to try it that way?

Some of the older installs are not compatible with Win7. Email me with your purchase information, and I'll set up a download for you.

Add me to the list of people that added all the HM-programs to a Win7 machine without issue.

It's really frustrating that most people run them without any problem, while a very few try everything and can't get one or more of them to work. Same with Vista.

I saw the other thread about the poster having an issue after installing MS-Office...I'm not using MS-Office now, I switched to Open Office for this computer. I wonder if there's any connection between people having install/run issues and the type of office program they're running.

I had issues and no MS-Office on the Win7 computer, being using open office since late 2008 and all of 2009.

I'm still using Vista Ultimate 32-bit, currently have Office 2003 installed, and have no problems. I previously installed Office 2007, but really didn't like it, so removed it.

I guess the key must be what's different in our machines...

I have Win7 Home Premium, 64 bit. The UAC is set to whatever the factory default is. When I installed I had AVG 9.0 running and had downloaded Java 6, Open Office, Malwarebytes, and Windows Live (just the messenger, I think...I don't think I installed anything else from that package), and the Google toolbar. Nothing else from the "outside" was installed.

During installation I got a message that the programs may not have installed correctly. I chose the option to override that message, which amazingly was called "the program installed correctly".

I had upgraded to Windows 7 32bit professional from Windows XP service pack 2 last month. At first the programs (Pro, Lite, Vee, and Aero) were working fine. But last night when I had to access Lite, it came up with the error message HeavyMetal Lite does not appear to be installed properly. When I checked the other programs, Vee also gave me the same message while Pro and Aero still worked fine.

Not thinking much about it, I just put my HeavyMetal Plus in the drive to reinstall Lite and Vee. The problem is that the DVD-RW isn't reading the disk for me to do the reinstall. UGH!

I just got a new laptop with windows 7 and had no problem installing anything and the programs all seem to run fine, but when I print record sheets it is not filling in all of the armor pips. Is this something others have seen?

If it prints funny symbols instead of armor pips, and maybe other characters on the parge, then it's a Fonts thing. See my FAQ at http://www.heavymetalpro.com/faqnew.htm#2

no strange symbols or anything funny looking, it just drops several armor pips, center torso, rear armor, sometimes on the legs. also drops some internal structure points.

Kinda weird. So, the record sheet does not show some of the armor or structure points that are on the 'Mech, on the main screen, and on a TRO printout, huh?

Does this happen with a certain design, all designs, or what? If only a certain design, please email the file to me, and I'll take a look.

so far it has been every page I have printed, some missing more pips than others. Every one has been missing rear center, many printing only two points on the location. left and right rear are usually missing one or two points. Many missing 2-3 points on front center, and a couple of assault designs missing 2-4 points off the arms and legs

That boggles my mind (which may not take that much these days).

<Grasping at straws>
Are you running as an Administrator, as recommended, if you're Vista or Windows7?

I get this issue even after reloading the fonts.
It looks like you may have the fonts setting to Large Fonts, which is not the standard. I try to accomodate large fonts, but as there have been so few problems, haven't looked at the setting for quite a while. This is in the Resolution and Settings for your video.

OK in a total screwy manner I had the fonts set to 100% (125% is default and 150% is large fonts)

So too small is ALSO an issue ;)

UGH!
Ok, I was finally able to get the disk read and it said that sectors for the setup file on the disk are corrupted. The CD is clean and was only used a few times while being kept in it's storage case. How can the files be corrupted?

Rick, would it be possible to send back the original disk for a replacement? I don't know what else to do since this is messing up my current Battletech campaign.

Rick is currently having computer problems, so his answer may be delayed a little bit.

Please email me with your purchase information, name, etc. My computer is back, but I'm in the process of ressurecting info and installing programs.

Ok solved it. With the window maximized I was able to drag the title bar, which allowed the program window to be resized manually to something usable. Weird. :o

Thanks for posting this report. I ran into the same problem with Win7/HMP6 playtest.

fixed :D

Deleting the INI file will reset the location and size to the default, which should also fix the problem.

I just installed all of the HeavyMetal programs on my 1024 by 600 pixel netbook that runs Win 7 Starter.

So far no problems and so far they all work just fine. :)
