I've been looking in my directory and see a bunch of .hm- files with otherwise the same names as the .hma file. What IS the .hm- file and can I delete it if I want to without hurting things?

Medron,
From what I have seen, those are backups of any saved files. When you save an old file, it changes the old file by putting a line in place of the last character of the extension, then saves the new file. I've seen a few programs do that.

HM- files are actually pictures that you have elected to save with the 'Mech file, rather than being linked to it. When you choose a picture to use with a design file, you can choose to LINK it to the design file (picture stays where it is on your computer, and a link is placed in the design file), or to save the picture WITH the design file. Choosing the latter copies the bitmap to the directory the design is saved in, and changes the extension, as well as notes in the design file that this has been done, and the filename.

HMBA (and future programs) do it a bit differently, as they actually embed the picture into the design file.

So, yes, you could delete them, but you'd lose the pictures you'd included for them.

Medron & Rick,
Uhhh... Ooopssss... Yeah, I forgot that because I try to link all my pictures to the files. I like to unclutter my HD files on my otherwise very cluttered computer.

Sorry Medron.

John
