i cannot help you, but it might be helpfull for those who can to know wich operating system you run.
win7 for example has some funny habits with how it treats files...

What happens if you open an existing map file, one included with the program, and then immediately save it? Will it save then? If so, then it may be something you're adding to the map that's causing the problem (which means there's a bug - not that you shouldn't be adding whatever it is), and that might give us a clue.

The error is in ntdll.dll, a Windows file not supplied with HMMap. That doesn't mean HMMap is not causing the error, but it could be a corrupted Windows file, too:

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixthepro ... dlldll.htm

I've never heard this problem before with HMMap. I can possibly give you some additional trouble-shooting tips. Please email me with your purchase information (the email you used here didn't check out in my database), and I'll send it to you, okay?

I know this is kind of an old topic, but in case it helps anyone else, I had the same issue using Windows 7. I simply had to select to run the program in Compatibility Mode for Windows XP (SP3) and it worked fine after that.
