I share my design folders (in my documents) between all of my computers so I can load my design library from any computer.

It works well. :)

However, I just noticed that the mech images I have saved next to the design files are not loading on my other machines.

They load automatically on the machine I saved them on, but other machines just don't see them.

Is this a common issue with sharing design directories between machines with HeavyMetal or am I just special?

;)

I'm sure you are special, but I don't think that's the problem. ;-)

The full path of the 'Mech picture you're using is saved in the data file. If the folder is identical on both computers, it should work fine. But if you have the picture in the same folder as the 'Mech data file, and if the folders are not the same name in both computers, it won't find it. Usually, if you keep the pictures in the original picture directory, it will work okay on both computers.

Another thing to watch out for is making sure you run the programs as an Admin. If you don't, fiiles will not actually be saved in the normal areas (Program Files\etc.), but in a hidden (and hard to locate) location. So, if you run as Admin on one computer, and not on the other, that could also be a problem.

Hope this helps. Let me know what you find out.

so...even with the images, even when saved with 'mech file, they still save the absolute location, not the relative location of "in the same directory as me."

So, full file directory location has to be preserved across computers. Got it. That would be my problem...

:(

Yeah, that's the way it is. Not the best way, I agree. With HMBA, I allow the graphics files to actually be /within/ the data file, so it's more easily transported.

OK.

Moving things so in the future, all computers should have them with exactly the same data structure for me. Won't help for giving them to other people, but for my computers it should work then...and all my a and b mechs are instantly going to lose their pictures...oh well...I least I have them printed in pdf form so I can print them again later if I wish. :)

I recently started a project to get every single datafile I have printed once so I can put them in a file folder and just pull 'mechs out of the folder when I need to use them. That of course means I must have pictures for them all. ;)
