Any idea if the HM programs will work with Windows 10?

No idea at all. Of course, I'm hoping so.

I got HEAVY METAL PRO to work, all the features and such work, modified a mech, saved it, reopened it, printed it.

Yes it works, I am still adventuring around the changes of Win10 and all, so I am sure here soon to break something.

My son attempted to upgrade his computer to Win10 today, and ended up with a 30 pound paperweight. Appears the install is not compatible with his video card, or some such, and he's trying to get to his pre-10 status.

Good to know that, if he's every able to upgrade, that HM programs will work for him, though. ;-)

There was a link from CNET on Facebook talking about going back to Win7 from Win10, I will see if I can find it.

I had the same issue. You can uninstall Windows 10 with the click of one button. He should then go and uninstall the windows update that starts the Windows 10 process, KB3035583 (I had to do this via command prompt).

Is his video card a NVIDIA GeForce GT 520 by any chance?

He has an NVIDIA GeForce 660 TI, but thinks that the problem occurs with a lot of NVIDIA cards.

On a positive note, a user reported that while an old (2003) version of HMAero installs and runs fine, his copy of HMPlus had an install problem. I set up a new download of the program for him, and it installed and runs perfectly. So, the programs appear to work fine on Windows 10, but depending on the age of your setup program, you may need to download a latest Setup (which I do at no cost, provided you're in my database and contact me by email).

The 660 Ti is NOT an old card. The ATI 4650 in my laptop IS old, and it worked just fine with Windows 10. Now I'm worried for when my desktop comes due. :(

There has been many issues with NVIDIA drivers. They claim it's fixed. Let's just say I disagree...

The 660 Ti in my desktop has the latest drivers, which claim to be Windows 10 ready. We shall see, I suppose.

By the way, my old laptop is running on Windows 10. It's running fine now, but there were issues:

- The install is computer intensive; it overheated and shut down my laptop twice. I ended up taking it off my desk, cranking my A/C and putting it right in front of the vent to get through the install. That may be less of a problem on newer machines, though.

- The install is sloppy; it leaves a lot of registry leftovers and the like, and undoes any system optimizations you may have. I fixed all that with Advanced SystemCare once the install was done.

- Win10 wants to get all in your business. Privacy settings? Yeah, it has all the file sharing, send info to MS and all that turned on by default. You'll definitely want to go hunting through all those settings and get them set how you like.

Win10 is now installed on my nVidia-equipped desktop. When I first installed Win10, the resolution was funky, and nVidia GeForce Experience did not load on start. I went into the Start menu and ran it manually, and it immediately updated to a new driver. Once I did that and restarted, the resolution was fine, Wildstar runs, HM progs run, everything seems to be working normally.

Cool.

I am still holding off on updating.

I dislike updating OSes for one thing.

And I dislike having an OS that I don't have an install disk for.

I don't know.

I'm just worried about making the leap...

It gives you the option of downloading it as install disk set up or a straight digital download.

Well, if it will help put you at ease, I know we've mostly been talking bad news, but here's the good news:

- The update is almost wholly automatic; you just have to give it permission to start, then input some settings at the end, and even on my old laptop, the whole process didn't take more than an hour or two. On my desktop, it was less than an hour.

- No wiping of your hard drive. Nothing changes but Windows. All your files and everything, even the icons on your desktop are left in place. You even get to choose whether or not to keep your old default programs, or use the new apps.

- The upshot of all the above is that compared to the past, you can update in an insanely short amount of time. It used to be that updating or re-installing your OS (as was often necessary under pre-Windows 7 versions) was a weekend project at a minimum. Now, you can start the update, go out to dinner, come back and it'll be waiting for your end input, all in one evening.

- Once it was all done and I re-optimized using Advanced SystemCare, my computers are running visibly faster than they were under their old OS. On my desktop, I'm consistently seeing about 2% less RAM usage on the meter, and my boot time is measured in seconds.

Hope all that helps you past the fear.

Okay main Win7 machine to Win10 and so far so go. Everything works and we will see how long it takes me to break something. HM series is working just as it should with this OS update.

Alright fellas, I recently 'upgraded' to windows 10 from win7, and after I reinstalled HeavyMetal Plus, Pro seems to work perfectly fine, but Vee and Lite give me this error message, or similar. I've restarted a couple times and reinstalled it a couple times to see if it wasn't a one-off thing, and I've even run it in compatibility mode. What am I doing wrong here?

Also, during the install, it pauses at "Updating the system" where it remains frozen and unresponsive

The error message is there due to a Registry setting not being set. Did you install as an Administrator? Are you running the programs as an Admin? Did you use an original Setup file (and not just copy directories from one PC to another, or a backup to the new PC)?

Be sure to follow the steps & suggestions on http://www.heavymetalpro.com/vista.htm
