I was asked to start a thread concerning custom weapons files that people can use in HMPro while HMPro6 is under development, in order to get the most out of Total Warfare and the TechManual. So here it is:

I'll start by posting the files he sent, and then others can look at it, and post their files as well.

Cicada CDA-3P

MMLs Need Work

New Clan Weapons

New PPC Carrier

IS Custom Weapons File

Clan Custom Weapons File

I think you can simply copy these to the HMVee directory and use them for vehicles, as well.

I spent this morning making a set of custom weapon files with all the new weapons, straight from the books. I was careful about all the BV's, costs and so on, so designs will be as accurate as possible under the current revs of HM Pro and HM Vee. I have sent the files as a ZIP to everyone who is on my CBT mailing list, and hopefully you'll see a link posted here soon for them. In the meantime, anyone who wants the new files can just email or PM me, and I'll be happy to send them along.

Here are Shades of Grey's Total Warfare / TechManual custom weapons files, all zipped up.

Please note that while I'm sure these files here are pretty accurate, I haven't gone and checked any of them myself.

Thanks Rick and Geek for hosting the files. I did the best I could with them...spent like four hours bouncing between all the different tables in the two books to make sure I got them right. I did have to make a few compromises, as I explained in the readme in the zip file, such as on MML's. But overall, they should be pretty much dead on.

I built the clans weapons myself when i got hold of 3050 Upgrade, but i ended up with some difference's in the BV of the new Alternates, it's only a small difference, up to 6 points. But the thing is, it is not consistent, ie. not all mechs with HAG20's are out.

Any explanation?

You might be seeing a difference between BV1 and BV2.

Or it might be a rounding issue in the calculations in HMPro. When I was making my custom weapons files, there were a couple of times that I tried using the "Calculate BV" button instead of entering what was on the table, and it would come out one or more points off. So I stopped doing that and just entered the numbers off the tables by hand to make it agree with the books.

I've only updated my BV2 program and compared it to the BV's in the 3050 Upgrade.

I only used the values on the tables in TM

Use the table values. Although HMPro was used to calculate all the values, a couple got mis-entered, and grandfathered in. There will be at least one correction that I know of, but I'll just wait until they're posted.

Okay, now that has confused me somewhat. If reads that you are telling me something that i had already did.

Also, i could only get the likes of the HAG's to work by counting them as missile weapons, which precludes them from being used with Targeting Computers. Which strikes me as strange if HMPro was used to calculate their BV.

When I entered the HAG's in my files, I entered them as ballistic weapons using their total damage value...20, 30, 40. They worked just fine that way.

If I am understanding Rick correctly, the values that HMPro calculates are the actual correct values. Due to typos or other errors, the tables in the books are slightly off. But until the books are corrected, they are the definitive authority, so use the values in the books.

I suppose that if you are entering the BV of them yourself it works. If you let HMPro calculate the BV then it would get the BV bonus due to the "head capping" qualifier.

Sometimes i'm a little too shortsighted.

It isn't shortsighted at all. A lot of people are having trouble getting the new weapons right. It took me most of four or five hours, bouncing between HMPro and the various tables, to make sure I had everything as best I could...

Actually all this talking about the new weapons has reminded me of something. (Though granted i might just download the files)

MG Arrays. No set BV.

The BV of the MG array is based on 0.67 x the BV of the weapons it is controlling. So when I made my files, I assumed four heavy MG's, which is the maximum possible BV for the weapons, and calculated the BV of the MG array based on that. I plugged that number into HMPro as the conservative maximum value; any other combination of MG's obviously would have a lower BV, but that's the best I can do under the current edition of HMPro. You can download my file from the link up above in this thread to see how I did it...

Didnt mean to. I was actually just confirming what you had said.

AFAIK, the only current error in the tables that will be changed is the MRM-40 (OS), which if memory serves, should be 45. I think the rest are correct, but this is by memory.

You might want to tell them to recheck the new weapons, Rick. I know that when I was inputting the new weapons into HMPro, I definitely was getting some different BV's calculated by HMPro than what was in the tables.

Something I have been doing myself is that when a weapon uses more then one type ammo (ATM, MML, LB_X) I make the weapon in the corrosponding catagory and the ammo in the "other" catagory". I don't know if this is how you guys did it, as I have some custom weapons I don't want to have to remember to save again (I hate getting ....hey what was I saying?).

The files I made do not, because honestly, I haven't figured out how to put them into HMPro properly. :-?

Well the retractable Balde is .5 tons and 1 crit more than weapon (sword) itself, so make an Other item named Retractable blade .5T 1 Crit. attach to the sword arm.

But the damage, and therefore the BV2, will be wrong. RB's do 1 less than the equivalent sword.

True but you can look in TM and find the BV of a retractable blade and edit into the custom entry. I wouldn't think the RB would be that much higher BV than a regualr Sword *shrug* I don't use BV much, I find that after 18+ years playing the game I can pretty well balance a game by lookig at the forces. It's not a perfect system, but then again neither is BV or BV2

you have to replace the original files with them (save your own custom weapons before you do that, build a mech/mechs with them from wich you could later reimport them)

Let me rephrase that: Strictly speaking, you don't open those files. What you do is open up the subdirectory HMP runs from (E:\Program Files\Heavy Metal\HeavyMetal Pro, for example); in there, you should look for "cl-cust.dat" and/ or "is-cust.dat"; If they already exist, you should rename them to something you can rememeber, or else move them someplace you can keep tack of (like a new subdirectory off of, say, E:\Program Files\Heavy Metal\HeavyMetal Pro called "backup"). Now you can copy the new files into the main HMP subdir; Fire up HMP, and there ya' go. :)

Easy as DOS, eh?

And, of course, custom weapons will always be at the bottom of the available weapons listed, and they will be marked with an asterisk. Also, make sure you select the proper Rules Level to use them (probably 3, but I don't know how they were entered).

To see what is currently in your Custom weapons files, just click on the menu Options > Custom Weapons Editor, and choose the desired Inner Sphere or Clan toward the middle of the screen, and the custom weapons will be shown. You can then edit them, or add to them.

Nope. HMAero uses different formats for weapons. I've tried.

Just wondering, along with these new neat weapon files, is there a location where we can get the 3050 Upgrade mechs in HMP files?

cheers

I am looking in my HMP program but I cannot find any files anywhere which have the weapons in them. Everything in the "Customs" files seems to be mechs.

Where do I need to put the new weapon files in order to get them to be accessable in the mech construction/ modification screen?

If I go to Heavy Metal > Pro >

My folder choices are now: Backround, BMPS, Logos, and Mechs

Which folder do I place the weapons into? None of them seem to have weapons.

I need some help people.

Played the game since inception and todate have never used BV in anything. We don tdo tournaments etc so works well for us. there are times we are hte overwhelming force adn times where wave after wave comes at us like crazy indians of bonzia attacks. So bv is imaterial fo rme, i just like having the new weapons in.

Not in any of those subfolders. Just put it there.

Check your 'level' setting, perhaps some have been set at 'level 3' & your setting is 'level 2' for example. just a guess on my part.

Dave.

Not certain what I did but I got 'em now. Hooray!

Thanks for the suggestion Davion_Boy but the weapons do show up under Level 2 so that wasn't it.

Thanks again, and to everyone, who lent me a hand! :)

Has anyone got any files for alternate ammo loads? I.E. LRMS with Semi-Guided ammo, or HE or ER ATM ammo.

I know it's been a while ... but has any one got the various weight classes of 'Retractable Blades' in a custom file along with every thing else ?, or a tip on how to enter these into HMPro Please. as I'm trying to enter the W.O.B Omnis & I'm stuck on how to do the Retractable Blades, in the various weight 'bands' to be honest.

(edit) I must admit I have forgotten how / if we can enter Weapon Damage (Various) into HMPro (custom) i.e the various damage the Variable-Speed Laser(s) can do for example the small VSP does 5/4/3 can this be entered ?, I know HMPro shows the Heavy Guass Rifles 3 damage 'bands'.

Thanks.

Dave.

You can enter the Damage Text as 5/4/3, and it will print that way.
