After reading a recently locked thread, I decided to refresh my knowledge of proper etiquette by checking out the Forum Policy rules. (Yep, I'm a good little citizen! :D) I noticed, though, that there's no particular reference made to the moderator/administrator classes, at least as regards behavior and deportment. "One policy for all" is no doubt the rule, but I thought adding a line to that effect might make a good addition.
Just my $0.02!

(As an aside, it's certainly very nice to be here in a forum where etiquette issues come up so rarely. I've occasionally stumbled into others that are like boxing rings full of rabid jackals on speed.)

Speaking for myself, my personal view is that as a moderator I have to hold a HIGHER level of conduct as others will be looking to me as an example of what to do and what not to do. I like to be the standard of conduct that others follow. I have my fun but I respect others and avoid unnecessary conflict. I feel confidant that if other follow my lead that they will not have to worry about whether or not they are in compliance. Incidentally on forums I do not moderate I have been known to be a trouble maker. But here I have a responsibility to set a good example and work hard to do so.

Well, over the years (my freaky Burger King mascot...have I known you for years?) that I've 'known' you, I've definitely seen you're making much more use of periods as time goes on. (That's a good thing. )

Use 'em while they're free!

I certainly agree the the Policy rules apply to everyone. And I agree with Mo that as a Moderator, it's certainly best to provide a good example.

On the other hand, we're only human, and make mistakes. I know I have. And right now, I'm out of town, and am able to get to the forums only occasionally, and for very brief periods. The Mods know this, and I've asked them to keep order. Sometimes I think they try to guess what I might do, and even if they're right, it may not be the right thing to do.

Hope that makes some sense. And in general, I think we /all/ try to cut everyone a little slack, or at least we should. This doesn't need to be a police state, but neither is it a place to cause arguments and dissension.

Anyhow, try to have fun, everyone, okay? After all, the Mouse is away!

Fighting fire with fire. That could explain it. However I think it is more likely that Goose has some deep seated Masochistic bent.

Well considering the pain in the keister I was the first year I was on this forum that analogy could apply to me.

I'm thankful that this is a generally-clean forum.

Very rarely does anything come up that makes things....erm...uncomfortable.

And the mods are good at keeping things from going out of hand too much and are respected by the forum goers. They are expected to act nice, but sometimes with a velvet-covered iron hand, and generally do so. :-)

I was a moderator at a forum where NONE of those was true. Hanging out a place like that simply is NOT worth it as the stress tends to be VERY high. I'm happy that is place is nice.

I am a moderator at New Star Software as well now, though we don't have the traffic or the well-handled problems this site has. We are like a big happy family and my mod powers are used to sticky threads and jazz. I like that. :-)

But IMHO it is the job of a moderator to be an example for how to act on the board. I know I've always tried to be more...erm...careful...in how I talk when I'm a moderator. Still, if I'm attacked enough times I do regrettfully respond as my "Hulk smash" side takes over. :embarrased: That is why the mods should look out for each other. If somebody is attacking a mod, another mod should get between them and handle the situation. Leaving the mod out on a limb to get wacked just tends to piss them off until they respond.

At least that is my experience.
