Ok, is there a way for me to search for just the Topics I started/posted?? I'm not talking about all my posts, but the ones I was the author of.

If not, would there be a way to add such a feature??

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd find it extremely helpful.

No, there isn't. And as the forums are developed by phpBB, and I'm just /using/ them, I certainly wouldn't be able to do it. There might be a forum mod, but I don't like to have many mods.

There's a roundabout way of finding those search results...

Click on Search, and in the "Search for Author" box, type your name. Under "Sort by" select "Author" from the drop down.

In your case that gives THIS RESULT, which if I did it correctly will give the starting page for all the topics you started.

The problem is the results for each thread starter don't seem to be in any particular order.

Thanks Chihawk, that does work in a fashion. Though I had to go to p5 to find everything that I started.

Yeah, it's far from perfect and the search results aren't valid for long (meaning my link will be dead soon)

Search by keywords seems to be bit... broken. Just now I used following terms:
concrete dragons
maniacs
goldfish

Only maniacs gives results, others say No topics or posts met your search criteria.

Well, "goldfish" are on a need-to-know basis, so that could be part of the problem.

Glad it's working okay now. ;-) There were other forum problems a couple days ago that maybe contributed to this as well.

Guess again! Now I get results, but there are plenty of topics that don't match keywords. What I've used minutes before typing this:
doorknob
goldfish
battlecarp

I'm not able to get any results with any of my searches thus far either.

I just made another search with keyword goldfish, and results include Stoopid 'puters IX that has no goldfish, gold or fish on it.

I attempted a search last night and got no responses at all.

Something is wonky with this board.

To track problem down further, I made search list individual posts. Under Stoopid 'puters IX is returned following post:

Chihawk, how do you expect him to keep his post count up otherwise... (j/k)

Mo, run a chkdsk/r on the "no OS" machine, 2000 is notorious for "losing" sys32.dll if there's an unexpected powerdown, a likely event for that many older machines.

The machine with both Hdd's "packed" take a Hdd from another machine, and install it as a slave on IDE-2, the one your cdrom/cdrw is on. If you have 2 optical drives on there already, ask yorself "why". Unless that machine is a dedicated duplicator of cd's, utalize the extra IDE port to mount another drive.

sounds like #2 and #4 need a chkdisk/r, and/or a reinstall of their respective OS's.

yank the modem from #4 and goodle it's model number to get a newer driver, and load that. If that doesn't fix it, canabalize a card from another machine and repeat until you have it online too.

Another option is put one machine online, set it to share its internet connection, and connect all your gear through an old 10/100 switch (you can get a 16 port at staples for like 30-40 bux) so they get their internet from the one machine online constantly.

It's normaly how you get to the internet through faster connections, but it'll work for 56k.

Improvise, Adapt, Overcome!
Okay #5 is a Win 95 machine 166MHz proccessor 32 megs RAM I was using it to download stuff becuase it still has HD space. I tried to reininstall Win 95 in it without success.

I tried to install a third HD in this one a 4.3 gig ...It's not recognizing it. I was trying to reinstall Windows in my #1 when I discovered mi idiot brother neglected to send me the malfing activativation code and he's messed his back up so he can't look for it....Bloody twit. I'm going to try to play with that modem later it's an external and right now the HP is on the middle of the table agains the wall and it's a bit of a pain to get to the back of it.

I have a drawer full of modems that need drivers.

$30-$40 is like the national debt to me right now

And Chihawk ...Chainsaw is right it's a good way to keep my post count up. :P THHP!
I wonder, what makes search see anything goldfishy on that...

It's true: You should get all kinds of junk if you push in "tank" by "goose", but now it can't find itself in a small closet . . .

It also seems to be running slow . . .

I searched for "tank" by Goose, and got this thread. Tried other searches, which seemed to work well, and quickly. Hmmm...

Have you tried goldfish as keyword yet? Do you get post I have quoted as result (see my previous post in this topic)? Why does it do that? Can it be fixed?

Searching not working on any keywords...I just tried searching for something I posted yesterday, and it's not showing up. Seems the whole search engine is kaput.

I run Windows XP and Firefox.

Sometimes search works, sometimes it doesn't.

I just tried some pointed searches though, of threads that I know are on the board, and it didn't come up with them.

Interestingly, a search for "Human Sphere" by "Medron Pryde" comes up with the recently created "Bondswoman Lents" thread, but NOT the extremely large and possibly most viewed thread on the entire board, my thread ABOUT the Human Sphere.

I'm willing to bet that there is a corruption in the database that is keeping the search function from searching the entire database, possibly because of how old the board is and how many posts have been made on it over the years.

Ditto what Medron said. I just did a search for "Republic" knowing that there are dozens of posts on here about my Veiled Republic; ONE (the most recent, posted Jan 5) came up. And that was using MSIE and XP Pro on this govt computer that I'm on right now...

Could the search engine possibly be not recognizing posts made before 2008?

Tested and confirmed. Looks like search has got messed up since change of year... Anyways last year I had nothing to complain about search: I found Concrete Dragons, Veiled Republic and other topics without a glitch.

It means that search doesn't find anything beyond 1.1.2008. Can you get it fixed?
