Our good friend Longwalker has graciously added a column on the Memberslist with everyone's ranks listed, for those who requested it. I realize this is just a subterfuge for determining the posts required for each rank, but allowed it anyway, benevolent MechMeister that I am.

[PS to Longwalker: I realized while writing this post that there is another feature I wish the forum had: spellchecking and previewing.]

Ranks is cool. Thanks, guys...

you could hide the number of posts. I'd much rather see how rank they are, than see howmany posts they've had. You could leave the # of posts for when you actually view their profile, for the really interested.

Well, the number of posts is in there as standard, and would actually require some work to remove. I kind of like them anyhow, and they don't really take up any room.

Although it wouldn't have been my preference, I used Star League ranks, as I felt they'd be the least offensive to others. The specialty ranks you're referring to are either people in special standings with me or the forums (like Chris Hartford, author of AeroTech2 and consultant on HMAero), or those who have reached the rank of General. Upon reaching General, you may substitute a personal graphic and/or equivalent rank, by sending me the graphic and requesting it.

Stick to the Star Leauge ranks.

And get me that Spell-Checker, pronto!

oh, that's how you guys get those neat little pictures with your names, nice

I'll have to wait until I get high enough grade though, but the search is on for a decent graphic

are there any restrictions? other than common sense and decency?

Size, for one; I may have to reduce the size if I think it's too big. Other than that, if you can get me to do it, you're there.

me too, I'll have to scan the pic and have Rick resize it to fit, if he can, if we ever let him finish HMAero first, then HMWarrior

I'm not too worried about it, I've got plenty of time before I get to do it

Plus, you have to reach the rank of General before I allow a change in rank and logo.

well, considering I've already made Lt. SG in only 33 days, I still have alot of opinions to give

just remember, these are only my opinions, everyone else is free to hold their own, regardless of difference

guess it's time to draw up the Dinada Cluster National Flag, a simple tri-color, easy to put on miniatures

Chihawk isn't the Village Drunk, he's the bartender.
You know he spends all day in the pub... and he always has a drink or an empty glass in his hand...

Maybe he is the village Drunk...

That was answered long ago - no. I don't want to publish it. People are already too rank-happy, posting hundreds of smilies and "I agree" instead of "real" posts. But for the time being, you can see about where the divisions are by sorting the Member list based on Posts.

(For the time being because I'm about ready to upgrade the forums, and may well lose that feature, showing rand /and/ posts for each person.)

Understood.

We had a similar problem on the Guild site, and its prevalance on other sites is apparent.

Maybe you could put in a minimum word count for posts? Or a report function that tallies so you can keep track of who is just posting junk and take appropriate action.

We have that problem at work. I received one kudos email from the CIO and every VP, AVP and Director forward that same email to us with I agree with... Tacked onto it...We were going to have everyone in IT forward the message back to them..... But we thought better of it....
