Hey Rick, how hard would it be to incorporate a chat server into the webpage, seems like someone is constantly posting here, several folks at a time more often that not, be cool to be able to chat it up here also.

*whispers to other board users* keep the ideas coming, he'll explode yet... :wink:

*..this Rick will self-destruct in ten seconds...nine...eight....*

Chat?

Like interact in real time?

Errggghhh!

I could not use the kind of client software required for that. Not at work.

When I tried ICQ on my own PC, it just fraged it, so I an not keen to repeat the experience. :{

Never tried ICQ, did the AOL-IM thing, it's pure evil, worse than a virus, embeds itself in every @$&*! registry and system folder on your PC. HOWEVER *dramatic pause* I have seen websites with chat built in that requires no client side software, it's all server side.

*begins popping popcorn for the day's festivities*

Well, I take far too much time away from my day job as it is. With the temptation of chat as well.... that might put me over the top. Heck, the way some of these messages go back and forth, it's almost like chat anyhow!

True but it would open new avenues for everyone. BTW, we use ICQ without problem.

We tried that server side stuff on a website once before. IT IS UNGODLY SLOW. The one we used was.....HTML based. Meaning of course that the only way to see what anyone has typed recently, was to refresh the page. There may be better ones out there, but I haven't seen 'em.

A bit negative.

But considering where you are from - that is only to be expected. :razz:

I've seen pages with Java-based chat applets. Some have worked out well, some haven't. I think it's a great idea, but it does seem to be lot of trouble. I imagine that a lot of posters here use the #Battlechat channel on IRC, so you might check there for your real-time BT fix :smile:

one of the probs with the java chats is that they crash a lot...they use LOTS of memory to run.....:sad:

And MS do not include a JVM with Exploer 6.

You would have to hunt doen one - or download from the Sun site (big download - requires lots of memory and a fast CPU).

SweEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! Work put me on furlough last week and if they make the decision I'm expecting them to make tomorrow, they are going to put me on permanent disability. That'd give me somethign to do with all the free time I see staring me in the face.
