I just completed the User-Submitted File Upload/Download area. You can visit it by going to http://www.heavymetalpro.com/user_submissions.htm or by clicking on the File Center button, then User-Submitted Designs link.

I've consolidated the Upload page into a single page, where any HeavyMetal software data file can be uploaded. Then you can view it, along with others that have been posted, on the appropriate Download pages. The only information listed for the data files is the filename (which you can change prior to uploading if you want, to be more descriptive - it will still load fine), the size of the file in Bytes, and the date uploaded. The loss of the comments and person posting the design are lost in my quest for simplicity and more reliable operation.

A pretty neat feature, I think, is that after posting a new design, you will receive a link to that design, which you can then copy and paste along with your design in these forums or elsewhere. A possible scenario would be:

1. You make your design with one of the HM programs, and save it, of course.

2. You then go to the HM forums, where you can post information about your design, including a Text TRO (and I heartily recommend this, as people can take a quick look to see if they would like it).

3. Open another browser window, and go to the File Upload page.

4. Upload your data file for the design.

5. Copy the link provided to you after uploading, and paste it into your post (NOT within the CODE tags, though).

6. Submit your post.

People will now be able to view your post, the text TRO, and if they want to download the design, they will have an instant link to do so.

Pretty neat, huh? ;-)

Okay, I added the database back in. Heck, we have it, why not use it.

So, all the other features are still there, but now you can also enter your user name, a shortened name for the design, and a description. It'll be a bit more work to maintain, but I think it is better.

Also please note that in the Description area, I already have in the text box "Clan/I.S. - ". The idea is that it is a reminder to put what tech base the design is, so eliminate "Clan" or "I.S." and leave that at the beginning of the design. Let's people know what tech it is, without complicating the database more.

Have fun!
