Topic review used to be at the bottom when replying...When did these two things switch places?

Within the last two days as far as I can tell, Chi.

I was wondering that myself. It was longer ago than two days that I updated to 2.0.8, so I don't know. I'm trying to determine if I like it better or not.

I've posted on the phpBB forum asking why/where the change was made and how I change it back.

Pressing the "quote" button is the easiest way to quote...

Well, yeah, if you want to quote one poster. If I wanted to quote you and Mo, for example, I would have to hit quote on one post, then go through the trouble of scrolling down, finding what I wanted to quote, copy, scroll back up, and then paste, which the way the board was configured, was too time consuming. This way is a little easier for me. Of course, that's just MHO, and I expect some disagreement.(Well, maybe lots, but hey, what do I know?)

Another plus of it as well. That way, even if I don't quote somebody/somebodies, I can at least scan over what was said and deal with people one at a time and/or review what was said prior in the thread to keep from repeating the same posts to a literal death in the event of several people making the same point.

(Gee, me and Mo actually agreeing on something? :help: :end: )

Uh, Mo, I hate to pick a nit, but you misspelled my handle. It's Marek. Not Marik. Not Marak. Marek  Get it right.

Yes it was. That was my April Fool's joke.

But seriously, there is a reason I get picky on spellings. Mostly it came from being raised in a small community with a lot of Czechs, Slovakians, and the like. Marek, IIRC, is Polish and I think Slovakian(btw, if I'm misspelling the word, I apologize. It's late.) Marak, otoh, I believe is the Czech spelling. I think Marik may be the spelling in one of the other Slavic languages, but I"m not sure which one. And I realize(for the Austin guys) that yes, we had this discussion before, yes I pretty much backed down, but realize that the day in question, I really didn't want to argue the point over the origin or the pronounciation of the name. Mostly because everybody(well, most everybody, anyways) mispronounces the name anyways, plus it's just a name, nothing worth bitchin about.

That I might not have minded.

But seriously, though, just for the record, though I do get fussy sometimes about that, to be fair, there where times in high school where some students with Slavic surnames got gripy about their names being mispronounced(usually the Marek's, Marak's, and Bohac's), while other times it was overlooked(like the Cervenka kids, or if the name couldn't get mispronounced like Steffek), and even times when the surname was mispronounced by the person with the name in question(usually this happened when the name started with a J. In Czech, the J is a Y sound IIRC, but they pronounced it the same way the rest of us pronounce a J. Guess they didn't want to start too much of a fuss). I remember growing up there where a few people with the last name of Bohac. One of the girls was in my class. Well, the name's pronounced Bo-hodge, but everytime we'd get a substitute teacher(or a new teacher for that matter), it was guarenteed that they'd misprounce almost every name in the book(except for mine; my real surname is not Slavic, though I choose one as a handle in tribute, and a few other "normal" surnames like Pearson, Taylor, Munoz, Perez, and Williams got pronounced correctly), so they get to the name Bohac, and it would come out as Bo-Hack. The instant the girl heard that, her face turned red, and you'd hear her bellow "IT'S BO-HODGE!!!" Same with Marek/Marak. The correct pronounciation of Marek is "Mar-ick," while "Marak" sounds like "Mar-rack" or similar. Soon as the name came out as "Merrick," backtalk ensured. Funny was when my Home Ec teacher started teaching at our school. One of the students in the class had the last name of Selucky. It's prononced Selusky, but he got a chuckle the instant she called his name out as Sea-lucky. He wasn't offended, thought it was funnier than heck. Way you really drove the teachers crazy was by giving them a name like "Strmiska." They'd start askin if the name's a typo.

Seeing as the vast majority of posts do not quote or quote just one post keeping it the way it is for the reason you mention C_M is illogical, considering that there is a very easy way to do what you'd like anyway...you just open the reply box in a new window and quote to your heart's content between the two windows.

Just please remember that 1) Most of us are poor spellers anyway. 2) Those who are good spellers are bad typists. 3) On forums and in chats, misspellings are generally accepted, as long as we can discern the content, as most people realize that we'd rather be contributing than using a dictionary or SpelChek. 4) Many user's names either do not match the norm, or are "technically" spelled wrong. And 5) Most of us do not take the time to look up a user's name, any more than we do a misspelled word. ;-)

Having grown up in Pennsylvania, where there are a huge number of Italian and slavic names, I will say that most of the people with those names did not even attempt to pronouce the correctly, as they would have been in their own tongues. That is one of the reasons that so many names get "Americanized" after arrival. My ancestor's name was Rösli (or Roesli), which in the written word even the day he stepped of the ship in 1739 in Philadelphia became "Rusely", and now there are about 8 spellings of the names of his ancestors, including Raisley.

Okay, the problem with the Topic review appearing at the top instead of the bottom seems to be fixed. Sorry to any of you who preferred it the other way. ;-)

I haven't, but I have heard that. And admittingly my Czech goes up to the phrase "Jak se mas." I actually tried to take a Czech course at a local Jr. College, but they talked me out of it for the reason you mentioned. But it's OK.

True. That part I hadn't considered.

EDIT: Thought I'd throw in a link with the history of the small town I grew up in. Granted, there's very little left in the town now, and you'd never tell just by lookin at the town(sneeze and you'll go through it), but just as an FYI. Not bad for a town who's former mayor(I'll save my rants and complaints about her) insisted on holding the city council meetings in Czech.

And here is a link of the church records in PA where my ancestors settled, and even within this one location and relatively short period of years, I counted 6 spellings of the family name. ;-)

BTW, Conrad at the top is one of two who made the voyage from Switzerland to Philadelphia in 1739.

Since ya'll are sharin' ya'lls family history, here's something about mine. It also contains "Americanization" of the family name.

I see what you mean. I apologize if I sounded a little mean earlier. Wasn't tryin to sound confrontational or anything.

Now I'll have to dig up my family history sometime. Mom's side is easier, the Swedes rarely threw anything away, so many of the records where intact. Dad's side's a little bit harder.

(Yeah, ya noticed, only guy in town who isn't Czech. Mom actually came from one of the neighboring towns. Don't ask why they chose the current house; I'm still askin myself that myself. )
