This is a Clan Mech from the Shadows' universe, though it would fit well in the canon too. The fluff tells the story. Enjoy.

==Overview:==
"As Shesha shelters Vishnu, this Naga shelters our Touman." - Phelan Kell.

It took the Clans many years to realize that the invasion of the Inner Sphere
was a bottomless pit swallowing their resources. And even when they realized
the ugly reality, it still took several more years for them to admit it.

No one realized the waste more than Clan Wolf. Having been divided and
conquered, then born again under Phelan Kell's leadership, it became
imperative for the wounded Wolves to eliminate as much waste as practical from
their Touman. Waste of both materiel, and of lives.

When Phelan Kell issued his mandate for new standards of efficiency, the first
target for many pointing fingers was the Naga OmniMech. As a dedicated
artillery unit, its very existence was a waste to most trueborn warriors. Yet
its abilities, derided as they were, were a necessary evil in the honorless
environment of the Inner Sphere.

An engineering analysis by the Wolves' scientist and technician castes started
with the warriors' established opinion that the Naga was a waste as an
OmniMech. Why bother reconfiguring an honorless weapon? Especially one with
such a specialized role? The changes between models were minor at best, and
only created arguments among the unlucky warriors assigned to drive it.

So the scientists and technicians scrapped the Naga's Omni abilities, and that
led to a surprise. By downsizing to eliminate the Omni pod space and removing
one heatsink for better efficiency, it was possible to duplicate the Naga's
primary configuration with a Mech that was 25% lighter and required 40% less
resources to build!

In the Clan tradition of naming designs from old Hindu mythology, and
recognizing that the new design was a "Naga that shed its skin" as one
scientist said, Phelan Kell named it the Shesha, after the eternal naga who
spreads his hood as shelter for the god Vishnu. The symbolism is not lost on
Clan Wolf, as the Shesha's fire support lends "shelter" to its warriors in
battle.

A mech named after a piece of furniture...interesting.

The fluff is well done and the mech is a decent replacement for the Naga and other Clan arty mechs.

The clans have been begging for a decent and inexpensive arty unit for a long time now... very nice work shrinking the stupid Naga down to 60 tons, and it's just as fast too!

Is it a good idea to get it down to an even lighter weight with a lower top speed?

Well, if you know the mythology, Shesha is a lot more than a "piece of furniture" as you say. But that might be a polite description of what the Clans' first line thinks of artillery...until it saves them from being Annihilated, anyway. ;)

When I was making this design, I dumped a heatsink (it only needs one extra to shoot on the move) then started shrinking it down. I hit that point at 60 tons where everything perfectly duplicated the Naga Prime...armor weight and everything. It was such a neat duplication that I went with it.

I could have gone farther down in weight with the same armament and speed, but that would have started cutting into the armor. And if you're trying to save resources as the Clans were in this case, it makes no sense to switch to more expensive FF armor...

I also looked at a 4-6 version with a standard engine. But I decided that the artillery needed to keep up with the troops. 4-6 or even 3-5 might be fine for Spheroid artillery, but Clan forces tend to be faster. So I stuck with the original 5-8, and it still costs only 60% of what the original did...

Glad you guys like the design. My next stop will be a couple of Omni configs and second line variants with TAG systems to work with this design.

I know what it is, and the same folks who are famous for it are still around making their woodcrafts...

actually more accurately *adi*sesha... sesha basically means serpent, and adishesha means great (or greatest) serpent.

sanscrit, of which hindi is a bastardised decendant, mixing in elements of urdu. hindi to sanscrit is probably like comparing street italian to classical latin

Doing some Googling of the word Shesha and it's not much to do with the serpent and the Hindi religion.

You either get furniture, hookahs or movies or other related words...

Now looking up the world adishesha gives this:

Geek: That's the reference I used for the name. As with many things translated from Eastern languages, the name has several different possible spellings in English...hence the confusion.
