Well, it's been a while since the Gooney Bird was running around, and with the new technology, I thought I'd unleash a few new variations on the fun theme. :)
Code:
               BattleMech Technical Readout

Type/Model: Locust LCT-6P
Tech: Inner Sphere / 3075
Config: Biped BattleMech
Rules: Level 2, Modified design

Mass: 20 tons
Chassis: Bergan VII Endo Steel
Power Plant: 160 LTV XL Fusion
Walking Speed: 86.4 km/h
Maximum Speed: 129.6 km/h
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: 0 meters
Armor Type: 1/Star Slab Light Ferro-Fibrous
Armament:
2 BlazeFire Longshot ER Medium Lasers
1 Johnston High Speed ER PPC
Manufacturer: Achernar BattleMechs
  Location: New Avalon
Communications System: Garret T-10B
Targeting & Tracking System: O/P 911

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

==Variants:==
With the discovery and advancement of additional technologies, the Gooney Bird
has undergone another upgrade. This time, the ferro-fibrous was light, as the
reduced bulk made little difference in armor protection. Additionally, an XL
gyro was installed, and the cockpit size reduced. This allowed for a pair of
ER Medium Lasers in the arms as secondary weapons.

Another rumored variant uses a snub-nosed PPC, combined with ER Small Lasers
instead of medium weapons. The reduction of weaponry allowed for the addition
of a targeting computer. Though not as ineffective as the -5P, the -7P is
considered a touch undergunned compared to the -6P.

And, If you don't mind having no secondary weapons and just 3 tons of armor, you'd be able to fit a Heavy PPC on that thing

(that or keep the 4 tons of armor and use a ER-PPC + Targeting Computer to blast away from a distance :)

I think I'd have to draw the line at a weapon that literally is 50% of your mass.

i´d not call that a mech, but a mechanized(mech-anized?) gun.
but that is not a reason not to do it

Why? Look back through the forums to see some of the things we've put on Urbies. GR's, AC/20's...heck, I have an Urbie with a Thumper in my files...

But a walking trashcan with a cannon isnt the same as a demon locust with a Peep. Reminds me of the old Koto, which replaced most of my Locust force years ago.

I love the sniping....You could really mess with someone's head and drop the ER Medium and give it a PPC Capacitor....

A head-chopping Locust would seem to be a great psychological weapon.
