Nifty.

How much would a 380XL or light engine weigh, versus the 285 compact? Just thinking you might save a lot of heat-sink crits by doing that, and it isn't as though you have ammo to explode as far as the XL engine goes.

It is really a beasty as is. The only thing I don't like is the lack of rear firing weapons. A Quad, especially a 3/5 assault is going to get surrounded at some point. As it is you can switch the lasers for the Peers as you close, so I hate to change that. Just make sure to deploy BA, or even the new magnetically carried Protos (muhaha) as close in support.

This thingy is intended to be at the core of the formation (defensive or offensive - does not really matter), so there will be someone around to cover the rear and the flanks.

I still have visions of two Protos stuck to it like lampreys. I know it is mixing Clan with IS, but still, I like that idea. I also have visions of an under equipped garrison using one of these backed by 2, or 3 Industrials as body guards. I know, I know, Industrials aren't my favorite, but some of the security mechs and such in TRO 3075 aren't quite so horrid.

IIRC, mech-transported protos slow down their ride, and Sirocco already is not going to beat the speed records :). So, probably something fast would satisfy your needs much better... like, say, a Balius.
