Today, I start posting my other Taurian naval designs of the Reunification War, by ship mass. We begin with the red-headed step-child of the TCN: The Rim Worlds Pinto and the ship it became in Taurian service. Enjoy!

==Overview:==
Following the Fleet Review of 2560, the Concordat Navy began to actively seek
to increase the size and combat strength of its forces. Part of the review
indicated a serious lack of corvettes for convoy escort and border patrols.
Forty-eight Pegasus class Corvettes were on active service at the time;
however, if war were to break out, the Admirality would need many, many more.
Forty of the ancient Wildcat class Corvettes were moth-balled in the inactive
Fleet and were available to be reactivated.
It would not be enough, the Review concluded. Plans were made to resume the
production of the Pegasus class with the newly developed Improved
Ferro-Aluminum Armor. However, these ships--what would become known as the
Boxer class--were still many years from reaching the Fleet.
Soon the Admirals were regretting the decision twenty years previously to sell
off eight of the moth-balled Wildcats to the Canopians.
Enter House Amaris of the Rim Worlds Republic. Through their embassy on
Taurus, the Republic made a generous offer to the House of Calderon. They
would provide sixteen modern, light corvetes in exchange for the secrets
behind the new armor, the designs of three BattleMechs unique to the
Concordat, and a sizable amount of money.
After three months of intense negotiations, both sides managed to reach a
deal. House Amaris received half of the money they demanded in advance, while
they arranged for the ships to travel to the Concordat. The new modern ships
were to be delivered by January 1, 2564, at which time the remaining sum of
the payment was to be turned over to Amaris's represenatives, along with the
'Mech designs and the secrets of Improved Ferro-Aluminum armor.
What the Concordat expected were sixteen new, modern ships of war--what they
received on New Years Day of 2564 were the first sixteen Pinto class Corvettes
the Republic had ever built. In addition to being old and obsolete, the ships
delivered were also in serious need of refitting and overhaul.
Caterina Calderon--Protector of the Concordat--was furious with the deception.
Tamiro Amaris, the Republic Ambassador, informed her that if the Concordat
was not satisfied, then he would leave with the ships. The down payment,
however, was non-refundable.
In response, Protector Calderon ordered the sixteen ships seized, and expelled
the Rim Worlds embassy from the Concordat. Disguisted at the bill of goods
they had been sold, the Admirality began to make preperations to have the
ships scrapped, and salvage what few good components they had.
A very junior flag officer by the name of Elias Beck--newly promoted to the
Strategic Operations Board--raised a valid point about the ships at just this
juncture. The Concordat possessed the ships, which while not what they
expected nor needed were still ships of war. Buying time with the Admirality,
Admiral Beck set a team to work on the best possible redesign of the Pintos.
Thirty days later, Beck presented the Pinto II to the Admirality in a four
hour presentation. Arguing that the money already spent on the ships should
be redeemed, he finally convinced the other officers to give the project a
chance.
The sixteen Pinto class vessels were taken into yard hands and converted to
the Pinto II. While much better ships than the original, they were despised
by the rank and file sailor of the Concordat Navy. Many in the press referred
to the Pinto II class as 'death-traps', and few received officers of quality.
When the last Pinto II was destroyed at Bell in March of 2583, enlisted
crewmen throughout the Concordat Navy erupted in spontaneous celebrations.
==Capabilities:==
With a maximum thrust of 4-g's, the Pinto II was one of the most responsive
and maneuverable WarShips of the Concordat Navy. Unfortunately, that was the
only area in which the design excelled. Despite using one hundred and
twenty-seven tons of Improved Ferro-Aluminum armor, the design featured less
overall protection than the ancient Wildcat class.
The entire original armament was removed during the refit. Two hanger
bays--copied completely from the Wildcat class--were fitted, each one capable
of handling four aerospace fighters and one small craft. Two Jankowski Mark I
Class 10 Naval Autocannon were fitted, firing forward and aft. These weapons
were backed up by six Martin-Gordan Blinder Class 45 Naval Lasers and six
Norman-Raytheon Barracuda class capital missile launchers. These twelve
weapons were mounted on ship's four quarters, as well as fore and aft. No
weapons were mounted in the broadside arcs.
The original Pinto included a single docking collar. Placing a docking collar
on such a small WarShip was not the practice of the Taurian Navy, but
technical issues with its removal resulted in the Navy just leaving it in
place. A single 65-meter diameter grav could--barely--provide enough room for
the one hundred and seventeen crew, fifty marines, and thirteen passengers.
Enough cargo space, spare parts storage, food, water, and fuel bunkerage were
provided to allow the Pinto II to deploy on 180-day patrols, the standard of
Concordat light combatents. In addition, five thousand and nineteen tons of
non-dedicated cargo volume remained for additional supplies.
==Variants:==
There were no variants of the Pinto II class (indeed, it was itself a
variant).

==Deployment==
Though a much despised ship, the sixteen Pinto IIs did serve with valor
throughout the Reunification War. Twelve ships of this class were assigned to
Admiral Elias Beck's Raiding Force (see the Avalance class Destroyer for
details). Those twelve ships were--grudgingly--given respect for their
accomplishments as part of Beck's command.
The remaining four were not quite so well thought of. TCS Breton (SCT-102)
was destroyed at Tentavia in the skirmish that began the War. TCS Pinto
(SCT-097), Lippizaner (SCT-103), and Percheron (SCT-112) participated at
Robsart, where all three were destroyed in action. These three ships were the
only Taurian WarShips at that battle who did not manage to destroy at least
one enemy vessel of their own.
